My Story

THIS POST WILL BE REMOVED WHEN THE DOG IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. INQUIRIES REGARDING ADOPTION STATUS WILL NOT BE RESPONDED TO. Meet Otto! This debonaire chocolate and tan wirehair dachshund is truly a gentle soul. He's about 6 years old and weighs 9 lbs. He has an epic beard and expressive eyebrows. But his unique feature is the long flowy hair (party in the back!) down his neck and shoulders. He's the whole package. Otto was recently released from a commercial breeding facility, where he never experienced caring touches or kind words. He's a very sweet boy, but he came to us extremely scared of people. He has started to build trust in his foster home and is realizing that humans can be good and head scratches and belly rubs are really nice. He will need a patient home willing to take things slow and build trust. Otto absolutely loves to be outside. He loves running, sniffing, barking and just watching the neighborhood activity. When he's inside, he enjoys doing "neighborhood watch" so he can keep an eye on what's going on outside. It's such a big exciting world out there and Otto doesn't want to miss any of it. Otto will require a securely fenced yard for him to safely enjoy this new world. He's still scared of the leash, so a fence is essential. Otto loves other small dogs. He likes playing, running and snuggling with his foster siblings. He does like medium sized dogs, but can quickly become overwhelmed by them if they don't give him space. Otto will need a resident dog to model appropriate behavior and for companionship. Otto lost 17 teeth during his dental. He still eats fine and loves a good chewie. He likes playing with toys and collects the ones he likes the most in his crate. Potty training is a work in progress. Regular trips outside and consistency will help him master house training. Otto is good about wearing a belly band inside while perfecting his skills. Otto is not fond of being left alone. Although he kennels nicely and quietly at night, he isn't so fond of being kenneled during the day. He can be quite vocal when you leave and when you return. He would probably do best in a home where he's only kenneled part of the day. Otto is a gentle soul that has already come a long way in the short time he's been in rescue. He's gone from flinching when touched to seeking attention and giving kisses. He's a happy little guy once he gets comfortable in his surroundings and with patience, will make someone a great little companion. Adoption applications can be found on our website at www.wagntrainterrierrescue.com Donation for Otto is $500 which goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our rescue dogs.
