My Story

COURTESY POST: Oso was adopted from the Apple Valley Municipal shelter December 3rd. They listed him as a Lab mix but he looks closer to a White Shepherd/Lab mix. They said a year and half old; he definitely is a young dog and I would expect he might gain a little more from his current 55 pounds. Turned in because he was 'chasing the livestock'. This is likely true, he tries to chase squirrels and is alert to anything in the bushes. He has all of his vaccinations and was neutered January 3 at Bear Valley Animal Hospital and has recovered nicely. Oso will make someone or a family a great companion. He is friendly to adults and children and dogs of all sizes. Due to his size and energy, he could knock down a small child and will make some dogs defensive but he has not snapped back at any. We have one medium and 3 small dogs and they get along except for one of the small ones who is defensive. He is house trained, we take him out morning, afternoon, and evening and he does his business quickly. He goes into a crate on command, at night without command. He usually will sit but needs training on staying and coming. He is usually good on the leash but will pull if he sees something to chase or another dog nearby. Also, since he is very friendly, he needs to be trained off jumping up on people. He seems to be a smart dog and trainable. We are working on this. Again, due to his energy (normal level for a dog of his age and breed) he should have a fenced yard to run in. He very much enjoys just laying down next to me while I use my computer, not a hyper dog. Still has some need to chew random stuff, should have chew toys but not soft stuffed ones. We can't keep due to already having the max number of dogs allowed but am glad to have rescued him. His strongest trait is his affection and friendliness to all, making him enjoyable to be around and take for walks.
