May 15th, 2010. Oscar was finally groomed (against his better judgement) and is feeling much more comfortable now. This boy has learned a lot in the past few months and is learning to trust. Oscar needs a home willing to work with him and lead him right from wrong. Oscar will need an adult only home with no kids, other dogs or cats in the family. He is NOT a lap dog and can not be picked up.
Oscar is doing well in foster care BUT still refuses to be properly groomed. We may need to sedate him in order to vet and groom him. This dog breaks our hearts as he has endured some unkind and abusive handling in the past so Oscar is not going to trust anyone right off the bat. Poor little dog!!! He is work in progress.....
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN OSCAR PLEASE KEEP CHECKING BACK HERE FOR UPDATES AS WE EXPECT THAT OSCAR WILL IMPROVE ONCE HE GETS TO KNOW US AND MORE IMPORTANTLY...TRUST US! THIS WILL TAKE TIME AND HE DESERVES AT LEAST THAT...!
JAN 31ST, 2010. IN LONG TERM FOSTER CARE.
Oscar has been placed in long term foster care near 100 Mile House where he will receive the care and attention he needs to become a balanced dog. We will be posting updates on his progress so please keep checking back here for new information.
Oscar is a character to say the least. This boy is 6 years old, weighs about 20 lbs and loves other dogs (not sure about cats). What he doesn't love...is being picked up. There has been an incident or two with his previous home and we believe he may have been dropped. Oscar is otherwise a great dog however, if he thinks you are going to handle him in a way he feels threatened he becomes VERY defensive. That being said, Oscar will not be going to a home with children. He is also VERY fearful of men. An adult only home or foster home who have experience with troubled small dogs would be preferred. A tall order we know BUT this boy is very sweet and just needs some time to gain trust (could be 6 months or more). Oscar needs to learn trust on his own and in time...we hope he will surface to be an amazing companion. We would like to see Oscar in a home with another compatible dog who is calm and trusting.
Oscar is crate trained and loves his little den. Oscar is in dire need of grooming but we are waiting until he has gained trust to do so. Oscar's coat is much longer now and new photos will be posted soon.
