Oscar was on death row in a shelter. When his time was up, the Waverly Pet Rescue took him in to that he would not die. He is now living in a foster home. He is up-to-date on shots, heartworm negative, and neutered.
Oscar is said to be about 10 or 12 years old. He only weighs about 10 pounds. He's going blind, has lost teeth and has problems with the others. Easily startled, shakes a lot, and needs to be talked to when approached but he is not aggressive. I'm guessing by the way he acts he can see shapes and shadows. But once he gets to know you, he's quite playful! Also loves to eat. No accidents so far, and will actually go out in the rain.
11/29/09 UPDATE: Oscar is doing great, he's so good! I wanted to add that we have him on wet food, the ground type. He can eat dry but ends up just swallowing it whole. So I think wet food is better for him. He also seems to be a bit hard of hearing. Sometimes if he's asleep he doesn't hear you approach and you may startle him. But he goes out into the back yard just fine, does his business, and always manages to find his way back! He also loves to cuddle up next to you to watch a movie and loves to sleep with you at night. He will bark when left alone and it takes him a bit to calm back down.
12/26/09 UPDATE: He's a good boy overall. He just doesn't like to be left alone or not know where you are. But he catches on fast as to location of the rooms and the routine here.
2/15/10 UPDATE: Oscar got out and about on Saturday 02/13 to the "Looking for Love" adoption event. He had a blast! He was a little shaky at first but calmed down and settled in quickly. He enjoyed meeting the other dogs and all the attention from the people attending. He did well when children approached and wanted to pet him. He was eating up all the attention and giving out a good amount of kisses.
I think Oscar may be able see more than we think. He wanted to walk around and investigate and meet everyone and he knew exactly where the door was that he needed to take us to, to go outside. He enjoyed being outside that day and would go to the door when he needed to go out to potty. He didn't seem to mind the snow and wanted to investigate the new surroundings. He didn't bump into anything and was to be able to avoid objects in his way.
Oscar is quite the cuddler too. He cuddled up on my lap for a little nap in the afternoon after all of his exploring. Oscar is still quite an active dog and I think he would really enjoy going for walks and going for car rides as he just curled up and layed down for the ride.
Oscar would do well well in most any home I think. He adapts quickly, likes children and other dogs. A quieter home may be better for him as noises could startle him, but he didn't seem to react to much to suprise noises at the event. He is such a good boy, I just can't say enough about him. He will take all the love and attention he can get and will give you so much more in return.
Will someone please adopt Oscar and give him a home for the rest of his life? $35.00 adoption fee. (his vet bill came to $65)
