My Story

Name: Oreo Approximate breed: Lab mix Gender: Male Approximate age: 3 years Approximate weight: 73 lbs Vetting/Vaccinations: Up to date Spayed/Neutered: Yes Good with Children: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Ok w/ slow intro Housetrained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Ideal Family: Any, loves water Adoption Fee: $550 Oreo's owners moved, leaving him with no food and an old pool of water covered in green slime and loaded with bacteria in the heat, down south. Luckily someone found him while out on their morning stroll, and even though they could not bring him home due to housing restrictions, they visited him every day to provide not only food and clean water, but kindness and love. Oreo was so smart; he knew they would come, and every day he was waiting at the same time and the same spot. It took a bit to go through the proper channels to prove he was abandoned and in need of help, but between his kind guardian friends and the amazing rescue network down there, he was saved and brought under care of NELR so he could come north to find happiness in a loving family and safe home. Oreo is such a love to have around, and we are so excited to help him get the life he deserves! He's good and gentle with kids, and loves playtime with other dogs. He's also been absolutely lovely with the residents of an elderly home he's been "working" at with his foster. He takes the elevator with no troubles and amuses residents with his adorable penchant for sitting in chairs. He can relax and laze about with you or accompany you on a fun adventure, he's really just the best companion no matter what you have going on! Oreo is somewhat afraid of cats, but with a gentle/dog-savvy kitty, and slow introductions, he could go to a home with one. He loves swimming and being in the water, so access to a swimming hole or a clean kiddie pool would be so much fun for him! Most of all, Oreo loves love and is so happy to be your buddy. He loves hanging out with his favorite humans and accompanying them throughout the day, as support or maybe just to give and receive some hugs! What a love he is. If a dog is no longer listed it means they have an adoption pending. We are a nonprofit organization - all adoption fees go towards the rescue, veterinary care, and transportation of these dogs in order to get them ready for their forever homes. We are a shelterless rescue. All of our dogs are housed in foster homes to help them de-stress and get used to a home environment while they await adoption, giving us the opportunity to understand their personalities and needs. Ready to Adopt? The next step is to fill out our Adoption Application. A volunteer will contact you to review your application and see if your family might be the right match.
