My Story

Meet Oreo! Oreo is an adorable Pitbull-mixed breed girl who just arrived from a local shelter we were fortunate enough to help in Madras. She was one of 50 dogs that we pulled that urgently needed a place to go, so some have gone to other rescues and shelters that were willing to help, while the rest have either already gone into foster care with SDH or are still awaiting their chance at being fostered or better yet adopted. She's a shy girl who would really love a home of her own to start decompressing in and we can't wait for this lovely girl to start coming out of her shell! She's happiest when she's out with people and she just can't wait to join you on your upcoming adventures and to experience what life outside of a kennel can truly bring! She's not super high energy, but this girl would truly love a good balance of walks, play and cuddle time, and some good R&R in the sun! Stay tuned to learn more about me and make sure to submit your online adoption application today through our website to not miss out on the opportunity to bring me home for a 3-day home trial towards my adoption. Will you be my hero? Foster update: "She's doing so good!! This is day 5 and we have moved from the bedroom to the dining/living room. We bought her a bed and she just hangs out on it most of the day. She walks great on a leash and is wagging her tail constantly. She's good with all dogs! We walk our neighbors retriever with her and our dog Molly. She's potty-trained and doesn't chew anything up in the home. She's super MELLOW!! We still have her crate in the bedroom and we move her bed in there too at night. Everyday she gets more comfortable. She doesn't know sit, stay. etc., but with time she will pick that up so easy. She's smart. Also, she's not afraid of loud noises: garbage trucks, landscapers, etc., or the tv. She's truly ADORABLE!" steps to adopting (OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS ARE IN SEPARATE TEMPORARY FOSTER HOMES BETWEEN BEND/CENTRAL OREGON AND THE GREATER PORTLAND AREA. THEREFORE, MEET AND GREETS ARE NOT DONE AT OUR FACILITY. TO LEARN MORE, PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR ADOPTION APPLICATION ONLINE AND OUR ADOPTION PROGRAM MANAGER WILL REACH OUT TO YOU WITH FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO MEET YOUR NEW PUP!) The first step to adopting a dog from SDH is to complete the adoption application. First click on the "OUR DOGS tab up above, and then click on the orange colored "Fill out an Adoption Application here" button to start the process). Once submitted, please expect 3-5 business days or sooner for processing and to hear back from us. Once you are pre-approved, your adoption application will remain on file with us for 1 year and it can go towards multiple adoptions within that 1 year time frame before it expires. To finalize an adoption you must sign the adoption contract and pay the full adoption fee of $300. The adoption fee helps cover our costs. On average, per dog, it costs SDH between $500-$700 for vetting/medical/sterilization, transport and other rescue related expenses. All dogs are rescued and do not transport to SDH until they are healthy and ready to be adopted. All dogs are examined by a veterinarian before they fly, which includes sterilization whenever possible, given standard vaccines and rabies (if age appropriate). Most dogs are sterilized before they come into our program, however if this is not the case we will spay/neuter them once they arrive at our cost. Upon their arrival, all dogs are seen for a wellness exam by SDH's medical team. Once the adoption is finalized, any further medical care or treatment will not be covered by SDH, unless discussed prior with our medical team. All known issues are disclosed to the best of our ability prior to finalizing the adoption.
