My Story

Ophelia was adopted Monday, July 10th, 2006!

Update 7/7/06: she finally outgrew her blue collar, and has moved up to a nice neon pink collar!

Update 6/20/06: Ophelia was given her second round of vaccinations, as well as bordetella. She's playful and happy, healthy, and ready for her forever home!

Update 6/16/06: Ophelia is headed back to the vet Monday (6/19) for her second round of vaccinations. Here are some updated photos of her. She doesn't like to sit still, so my apologies for the imperfect pictures!

Update 6/13/06: Ophelia is doing great. She's now at about 98% usage for either the piddle pad or going outside. She loves to be the center of attention, and enjoys nibbling on the cats' ears; she has been microchipped. Her coat is glossy and smooth, she is the picture of health. She's looking very much like a purebred lab right now. She remains smaller than her brother, but more dominant. She shows him who's boss by stealing toys, and playfully chewing on him. Ophelia is the last little girl puppy, and would really like to find her forever home. Will it be with you? Look for updated photos by the end of this week!

Update 5/29/06: We recently started on crate training. For a few hours at most, we put all six puppies into a big kennel. So far results have been wonderful! Potty training is going very well. We've been taking them outside, and they seem to understand that it's where they're supposed to go potty. However, they do not signal that they need to go out. When they first get up from a nap, just after eating, or when they start to sniff around are the times they need outside. They're getting better and coming back in the house on their own when they are done outside. Since we've been going out now, they sleep a lot better, especially right after a good 20 minute play session in the grass! Currently Ophelia does not have any applications on her. If you would like to adopt her, please fill one out! She's a wonderful puppy and would be an excellent candidate if you're looking to adopt!

Update 5/23/06: The vet visit went well. Ophelia is now current on her vaccinations, and has been deemed healthy! She weighed in at 6.6 pounds, the smallest of the litter. She had two little bald spots on her forehead, and needed a skin scrape to rule out common causes, but she's negative, so she probably just got in a scuffle with the other puppies. She will be healed and ready to go to her forever home on June 2 (8 weeks old)!

Update 5/20/06: Today the puppies got their very first collars, complete with stainless steel name tags! Ophelia has a light blue collar.

Update 5/18/06: Vaccinations are scheduled for Monday (5/22/06). We will be holding a special adoption day Saturday May 27th from 1-2pm at Pet North in Brainerd. We strongly encourage everyone interested in adopting to please come and meet them in person!

Update 5/17/06: Today was "get as dirty as you can" day (I guess we didn't get the memo). So as long as they were all getting another bath, we let them go outside in the play yard for the first time. As you can see they seemed to have a blast, but got even dirtier.

Update 5/9/06: The puppies have started eating solid food mixed with the soft. Potty training is progressing, and aim is improving, but not perfect. The puppies have been introduced to toys now and enjoy playing with tennis balls and rope toys. They haven't shown much interest in the Kong, Nylabone, or real bone.

Update 5/6/06: Ophelia got her first bath! She is very outgoing and is one of the first puppies to investigate new things. If she is ignored, she will start to chew on your shoe or pantleg. The puppies were moved yesterday from the livingroom into the kitchen to help with potty training and giving them a bit more space to play.

Update 5/2/06: All puppies now have teeth and are starting on soft puppy food once a day in addition to nursing.

Update 4/28/06: Potty training is a success!! All of the puppies have now used the piddle pad! We will start with outside potty training after 6-week vaccinations.

Update 4/26/06: Ophelia is just adorable! She looks like a purebred lab at this point, with a bit of wrinkle around her mouth. She initiates a lot of play, but does show a preferrence to play with siblings over people. She does approach people in the puppy pen and chews on pants and will even woof on occation to get your attention! She had to have one of her rear dewclaws removed as it was malformed (no pawpad, just the nail) and posed a potential "snag" risk.

Update 4/17/06: Ophelia's eyes are opening!

Ophelia is one of an unwanted litter of 6 pups born Friday, April 7th 2006. They appear to be lab/shar pei by best guess (their faces are wrinkled). Only time will tell for sure though.

Ophelia was the fourth born. She is black with white toes chin and chest. At 24-hours old she weighed 1 pound 1 ounce. At 11 days old (4/18/06) she weighed 2 pounds, 6 ounces. At three weeks old (4/29/06), Ophelia weighed 3 pounds, 11 ounces.

We are accepting applications now, but these puppies will not be available until they are 8-12 weeks old. At that time they will be current on vaccinations, dewormed, microchipped, well socialized, and started on potty training. As with all adoptions, this puppy will go to her new home with a collar, ID tag, microchip tag, vaccination records, adoption kit, and rabies tag (if 16 weeks or older).

Adoption fee is $150.

Please call between noon and 6pm. We onlt adopt to homes in Minnesota.
