Oakley 3151

Okay everybody - meet Oakley! SSR has hidden away this little gem for a couple months while she recovers from distemper. Oakley is a little lady just over a year old. She was rescued from the streets of Texas in April, and it was then discovered she was positive for distemper. Oakley's only symptom was eye discharge. She has been in isolation at vet boarding and has shown no other distemper symptoms. Oakley is a very happy dog, energetic and healthy otherwise. Dogs usually shed the virus quickly. Oakley has been very slow at shedding this virus. She has had a PCR test every month and just this month has shown great improvement. Her PCP previously was 32.80. It is now 36.40. If this improvement continues, she will be negative for distemper in a month or two. Extreme precautions are needed while she sheds the virus. We need to ensure non-vaccinated dogs are not exposed to her. The good news is, distemper only lives outside the host for a few hours and with diligent cleaning practices, Oakley could be in a foster home. She is receiving very little socialization and limited exercise because of her isolation. Shes a sweet little girl and would be a joy to have around.
