My Story

Name: Nyla Purebred/Mix: Belgian Malinois / Shepherd Age: 6 yrs, 5 months Gender: Female Spay/Neuter: Spay Current on vaccinations: Yes, vet visit on 2-19-24. Up to date on everything with records. Heartworm status: Negative and on preventative monthly medicine. Current on heartworm prevention: Yes Microchipped: Yes Good with dogs: Yes, big and small Good with kids: Yes, is good with a 19-month-old, twin 7 yr. old boys, and 4 yr. old boy all at the same time! Good with cats: Unknown Housebroken: Yes, no accidents inside and will let you know when she needs to go out. Crate trained: Not sure, we don’t have a large crate to test her with. She sleeps on a large pad and when we’re gone, she stays in the house and has never gotten into anything (does not chew on things that are not her toys). Temperament: Loving and very friendly. When strangers come to our home her ears are back, tail wagging and excited to be petted if they want to pet a dog. But she is not aggressive towards any people. Behavioral issues: None, but when she goes on walks she can get a little excited about other dogs. Not in a mean way, wants to play. But she is strong and when you tell her no she comes back to your side. Other than that a really loving and well trained dog – knows sit, shake, stay, stand up, lay down. She does not get on any furniture unless she’s told it’s OK. She’s not aggressive at feeding time, waits for you to set the bowl down. She also is not aggressive towards other dogs during feeding – for example if a smaller dog gets their food first she’s patient to wait for hers. And when my smaller dog is eating, she lays down several feet away and the other dog which is anxious is not bothered by her. Reason for surrender: I found her and she appears to be abandoned. Have spent several weeks searching for her home and no one appears to be looking for her. Signs in the neighborhood, Facebook, pawboost, and we’ve heard nothing. Lots of people cross posted with no one looking for her. The person on the chip ID rehomed her two years ago and could not give any more information. That is how we found out her birthday (9-1-2017) and name. Nyla is a great dog. She seems to have been in a loving home and is well trained. When I first found her she sat down and let me put a leash around her neck and we walked around for 30 minutes before heading to my house. And all that time the handle of the leash was around her neck (she had no collar) and I was holding onto the clasp end and she did not pull away. Since she’s been in our home she’s become part of the pack with our two other dogs – Corgi mix and a terrier mix. They love to play together. And she’s great with little boys playing around her – often she’ll lay down in the middle of the toys and other times she’ll lay on the side of the room. She also runs around our yard but does not dig out – but we also don’t leave her out more than maybe 20 minutes at a time. She’s a big dog and a little overweight but we’ve been feeding her a little less than normal and taking daily walks and she’s losing some weight. She’s about 99 lbs now but should be around 80 lbs. She does not like her nails trimmed and the vet gave us some anti-anxiety pills to give her before bringing her back to get her nails done. Interested in adopting?!?
