My Story

WEEKEND ADOPTION EVENTS: SATURDAY, AUGUST 3 from 12-3PM: Dog Adoption Event at OLATHE PETSMART at 119th & Strang Line with volunteers from Heart of America Humane Society. We’ll have several dogs there looking for homes! SATURDAY, AUGUST 3 from 10-2PM: We’ll be bringing some adoptable dogs to The First Responder Back to School Bash at Pierson Park from 10-2pm. Pierson Park is at 1800 S 55th St in Kansas City, Kansas 66106. WEEKEND SHELTER HOURS: SATURDAY, AUGUST 3: OPEN 10AM - 3PM — NO APPOINTMENT NECESSARY! SUNDAY, AUGUST 4 : OPEN 10AM - 3PM — NO APPOINTMENT NECESSARY! NIGEL is a handsome brindle Pit Bull mix! He is 3 years old and he weighs 64 lbs. Nigel is a very smart, curious guy. When he sees a volunteer coming to get him out of his kennel, he gets so excited because he knows it’s playtime! Nigel loves the play yard! He loves climbing and running down the steps of our wooden playset. He really enjoys when his dog friends join in on the fun. Nigel is very attentive and learns quickly. He already knows how to sit and always loves to show this off. He also does well on a leash when he goes for walks. He will occasionally get excited and get the zoomies on his leash, but quickly calms down. Nigel is eager to meet his new family so he can start having all the fun adventures with you! Unfortunately, NIGEL tested positive for heartworms. But please don’t let this scare you away! We just need to get him into a home during his treatment. The cost for the heartworm treatment is completely covered. We can provide you with more info about his heartworm treatment if you are interested in adopting or fostering him (we’d love to find him a foster home!). Once his treatment plan is completed, Nigel will be able to live a normal healthy life with no restrictions! ADOPTING A PET We are open for meet and greet adoptions at our shelter on weekends. No appointment is necessary for weekend adoptions. Our weekend hours vary and we also have satellite adoption events every weekend. Please visit our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/FriendsofKCKAS/ for more info about weekend adoption hours, events and available pets. We are also open Monday through Friday by appointment. Please contact us by phone at 913-321-1445 or by email at [email protected] to schedule your appointment during weekdays. If you have a dog or children we ask that you bring them with you to meet our dogs to make sure it is a good match. Our dogs have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and tested for heartworms (if 7 months or older). FOSTERING Can't commit to adoption but still want to help us save lives? Consider fostering by filling out our foster application at https://www.kckpd.org/Animal-Services/Foster-a-Pet. All supplies are provided.
