My Story

Nicholas the court jester, is the upside-down Pointer x Pit boy who is 100% ball-obsessed. He can open fridges and undo backpacks by unzipping the zipper. He is a talented boy who is full of surprises. He also had kidney damage due to a misadventure with a bottle of Tylenol. However, in true Nicholas style he pulled yet another fast one when all of his recent Kidney results came back completely normal. His new home was prepared to adopt him regardless of the results, but are of course thrilled that he is doing so good!

Nicholas has officially found his dream home, and we couldn't be happier for him! He is now living on the Sunshine Coast with Becky and Tom; their two grown-up kids, Will and Beth; and their beautiful Pit mix Misty. The family was mourning the loss of their other dog Sparky, when Becky spotted Nicholas on petfinder. The family was not quite ready to adopt a new dog, but something about Nicholas drew Becky in. On her next trip to Vancouver she stopped in to meet him, and the following weekend she came back to take him home!

Here are some updates from his family:

Things are going great with Nicholas. He is really settling in and he and Misty even played a bit together yesterday for the first time.

He is a wonderful dog and did you know that he can cover himself up with a blanket. Heard some scuffling on the bed last night while I was working at my computer, turned around and there he was settling in under the fleece blanket that I lay over top of my comforter which he managed to get himself under all by himself. He really is the funniest dog. We all love him to pieces and even my daughter Beth has finally melted and is starting to lavish attention on him (after Misty of course).

I just also wanted to tell you that I think Nicholas is just about the smartest dog ever! He now has taken to getting his leash out himself. Yesterday, when I was getting ready to go for a walk I was heading down the hall and he sprinted ahead and I heard rattling in the bin where I store the leashes and out he comes with one. Today, when I got home from work, even though I took them out before work and then whipped home at lunch and took them up to the park for a ball throw, he got out both leashes as soon as I walked in the door as if to say "come on, lets go now!" Pretty darn cute.

Got the care collar today and Will is trying it out with him as we speak.

I am going to start some leash training and beginner agility with him next Monday to see if we can't get him walking better and burning some more energy. I'm pretty excited to give it a try and I think he might be awesome at the agility. He really is a very intelligent dog. I've never had such a smart dog before and it is pretty entertaining.

Love a boy with a spring in his step and a ball in his mouth?

Nicholas is a 3 year old German Shorthair Pointer x Pit Bull. He is a high energy love muffin, who believes himself to be a 5 pound lap dog. Often found upside down and being a clown, this boy is sure to make you laugh.

He would be a fantastic match for an active, outdoorsy single person or couple. He is too bouncy for young children, but great fun for family with teenagers. Nicholas has a hard time remember that feet are meant to stay on the floor and that running into you enthusiastically to say "HI!!!!" can be a bit hard on the knees. Nicholas knows basic commands, but further classes to help this smart boy to remember to keep his feet on the ground is a great idea. Nicholas is a fetchaholic who also loves swimming, camping, basically anything outdoorsy you can think of. He is excellent with other dogs and ok with dog-savvy cats that will keep him in his place. He would love to live with another dog, he especially adores bossy female dogs.

About a year ago Nicholas got into a bottle of ibuprofen and has kidney and liver damage due to it. He needs to remain on low-protein food for the rest of his life as this eases the strain on his kidney and liver. Otherwise he is a pretty healthy boy. You know that when you adopt a dog that one day they will get sick and pass away, but you don't know what they will get sick from. In Nicholas's case one day he will face kidney/liver failure, however he likely be an old man at this point. Nicholas wants a family who will help him to live life to the fullest, and not dwell on the possibilities, as Nicholas is far too busy having fun to care!

Nicholas is an adreniline junky and sports fanatic. He is also a big suck that loves nothing more than watching movies and cuddling on the couch. He is a total ham who you can't help but laugh at. He is seeking a dedicated home that will love him for all he is. He has a huge Bully Buddies fan club who wants him to find the best home ever!
