My Story

My heart melted the moment I rescued Neville. The only thing we know for sure is that he was running in stormy weather for three days. He was riddled with fleas and ticks when we got to him, but that didn't get him down. At first he didn't know that he could trust us. He was a little shy, but as soon as he knew that he was safe, his true self shined so bright. Neville is a cuddle bug. He loves to be close to his human. He is quite content laying in a dog bed with a hard chew toy. We are pretty sure he wasn't socialized much wherever he came from because we had to show him how to play with dog toys, what a harness was, etc. Neville loves hugs and kisses. He enjoys curling up next to you in bed at night. Neville loves his humans with all of his heart. He is shy at first, but as soon as he gets to know you, he will fall head over heels. He is very athletic but doesn't require a lot of exercise. He is happy to walk it off in a fenced in yard. Neville is an 11.8-pound Chiweenie. He is a very petite dog. He is approximately 1 1/2 years old. We have had him examined by our vet and he is healthy. He has been tested for heartworms and tick diseases. All tests were negative. He is current on all of his vaccinations, heartworm prevention, and flea/tick prevention. Neville is neutered. We have worked on his potty training. I am happy to report that he makes through the night without his belly band on now. We have bathroom breaks every 4 hours during the day, unless he alerts us that he needs to go out. He no longer marks items around the sanctuary. He does well with getting into the crate and remains calm as long as he knows you are near. He prefers to be sleeping on the couch, waiting for you to come back home. He does not chew on anything other than his hard chew bones. He prefers to relax. He is very smart. It took only three days of the belly band and coaching to get him to go potty outside, He learned the "kennel" command in two days with positive reinforcement.
