My Story

Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home. Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families. Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today. We'll update as more information is known. Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days? If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application. You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side. You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available. Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes? Please drop a note to [email protected] with your name, address and phone # and email. We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team Not in VPDate into Rescue: 06/26/24 Reason for being in rescue: breeder release/breeder is retiring. Note Nessa has never been bred. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Nessa has been spayed and had her teeth cleaned. She did not need any extractions. She is current on all vaccines and heartworm negative. Weight: 7.4 lbs Height: 9 inch at the shoulder (est) Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $399 Fence needed? No, but a fence is a great safety feature for any dog. Nessa does not yet know leash walking. If you do not have a fence, you'll need to teach her this very important skill right away. This means she does not know how to potty on a leash - another skill she will need to learn. Nessa has always had the security of a fenced in yard for play and potty. She will learn but it will take patience on her part. First preference will be given to homes with a physically fenced in yard. What kind of home would be best for me? First and foremost, Nessa cannot be an only dog. This is not negotiable. Nessa loves other dogs, has always had her own kind around her and enjoys playing and snuggling with other dogs. Another dog (or two or three, small dogs under 8 years old) in her home is essential to her happiness. She will decline in an only dog home, so we are not going there for Nessa. Nessa needs her adopter to be home more than they are away. Her ideal family will offer an abundance of patience, love, understanding, compassion, calmness, and empathy. She will need someone who likes to shape and mold canine behavior because she needs to learn it all. She needs to learn basic cues like stay, sit, come, down, etc., and will require leash training as she's not familiar with walking on a leash. A patient, kind, and loving adopter will help Nessa bond through training, using treats and positive reinforcement. Sudden noises startle her, so a quiet and stable environment is best. A home with another confident dog is essential, as Nessa will benefit from learning how to be a pet from a canine companion. She is a follower, not a leader, so she will thrive in the company of a confident dog. Nessa is flexible in her living arrangements. She will do equally well in a house or an apartment. Remember that if you do not have a physically fenced in yard, the first few weeks will be all about potty on leash outside and leash training. Both are new to her. What is my personality like? Nessa's life before CPR was quiet and country. She lived with many of her relatives, and they played the day away in fenced in yards and with a loving caregiver. But -that is life in the country and few people live that life. While she would love that country life again, we know she could make the transition to urban or suburban life. But her home will need to have patience while her world changes. Nessa is shy, and still learning to trust people. She has lived a quiet, sheltered life and did not realize there were so many humans out there. She is interested, but inexperienced with us. Nessa is looking for someone who will be her guide in meeting new humans, keeping her safe while she learns to trust. She has not yet interacted with cats. Underneath Nessa's wallflower exterior is a gentle and loving girl who, with time, patience, and affection will blossom into a loving pet. Nessa is looking for her adopter to open their heart and home to her. As she opens up you will find both your lives will be changed for the better as she becomes you loving life-long companion. Nessa is looking to be a pet - to go places, to see things, but to every day settle down with life with you. How do I act when I first meet new people? When meeting new people Nessa is quite reserved and may initially run away. However, once she is in your arms, she will wrap her front legs around your arm and put her head on your chest just to make sure something does not change for a moment or two. It is sweet but what it means is your arms are not a comfort zone for her yet - only safety in the storm of new things and new emotions. But, your arms can be that comfort zone if you work with her. Other tips and tidbits: Nessa's birthdate is 5/10/21. Nessa is a stunning jet-black poodle girl with a beautiful confirmation. Long legs and curly hair abound in Nessa, just as the breed standard says it should. Nessa must be considered a flight risk for the first 30 days minimum. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR.
