My Story

ALL THE HUSKY FUN WITHOUT ALL THE HUSKY SIZE What a looker this girl is. She is guaranteed to turn heads, where ever you go. Plus, she is not going to be as big as a normal husky, thanks to her heeler mix genetics and should not top out much over 45 lbs. Little Neela had a rough start in life. She was born under an abandoned trailer on the Yakama reservation, to a stray momma. She was one of six pups born there and momma did her best to raise them without human help. Once old enough to move about, the pups caught the attention of passer's by, who took to social media, which saw another rescue, set up and manage to trap Momma and five pups. But not Neela. She got left behind. One of our volunteers, who lives nearby, would drive by daily and see Neela looking very lost and scared and confused. When after a few days, no evidence of the other rescue returning to capture her, could be seen, she set her trap and with some yummy tuna as bait, soon had Neela safe in the trap and on to a better life. Neela was understandably skeptical about this turn of events but has caught on to the domestic life and all it's comfort, with relative ease. She will probably always be a bit wary of new humans but does warm up and lives happily with her foster, as evidence to her willingness to give everyone a chance. She loves all her doggy foster friends and playing with them. She also loves playing with the cats in the home, which they decidedly do NOT appreciate, so perhaps if you love your cats, Neela is not the one for you. Neela has learned a lot from her foster mom too. She is crate trained, house broken, is a good traveler and walks great on a leash. She loves toys and play with her doggy buddies and would love a home where there is another, socially confident, energetic playmate, to hang out with. True to her genetics, Neela has energy but so far, does not exhibit the over the top energy, known in the husky breed. We can only guess at her breeding but we do know that momma looked like a very small black and tan herding mix so dad was probably the norther breed genetic carrier. Successful adopters should anticipate both herding and northern breed attributes and know how to channel that into positive growth and behavior. She will not be a good candidate for those working long days with little time for exercise, unless doggy daycare, which she would love, is financially feasible. She would however, love a home where she has adventure buddies, human or canine and balanced training is provided. Neela is currently five months old (we caught her when she was only 8-10 weeks old) and has enjoyed healthy life and living, since the end of January. She is scheduled to be spayed in May so will not be available to take home until then, but we would love to approve an adopter before hand, so we can get her on her way as soon as she is altered. Neela is current on five way vaccines and has had her rabies vaccine as well. She is fecal tested clean of worms, flea/tick free and microchipped. This is a lovely girl who had a pretty crappy start in life. Her intelligence kept her safe, after mom and sibs were taken away and her heart has delivered, in her ability to adapt and grow and trust. She deserves a good home, filled with love, guidance and adventure and we can't wait to hear from you, because you want to be that person or family.
