My Story

If you are interested in this dog please go to our website and put in our official adopt application. We will then visit by phone. No one is obligated to adopt by putting in an application. We want our dogs to be a good match for you and yours. Long distance transport may be discussed. More information is available and we have two videos we can email to you if you wish to view. Our link to the on lone adopt application: http://jcldr.com/adoption-application/ STATS: Nakota is a 2-year old as of 2022/23 neutered solid black gorgeous purebred Catahoula male. He is housebroken, up to date on vaccinations, weighs 70 pounds. He adores car rides, gets nervous at vet visits and is reactive on nail trims. He is fed twice per day (2 cups each) on Taste of the Wild Pacific Salmon formula. He is good on a leash but will pull if spots prey. Slow introductions are necessary when meeting other people and dogs as he is extremely protective. He is HW negative and on prevention.   He has a strong hunting and prey drive. He is a talker and sometimes low growls when playing..not an uncommon for male dogs. Part of talking.. Nakota, like most Catahoulas, loves to be near his pack human pack and does well with the Catahoulas female in his foster home, but not the male. He is a big cuddle dog and has separation anxiety. He does not like closed plastic crates and does not go in and out of open wire crates freely but has gotten really much better with the crating. . He likes chewing bones and toys and playing fetch.   Nakota needs plenty of exercises and is a great running companion. He runs good on a leash (pulls on mile 1) and is used to running 4 miles several times per week.   Best if placed without cats or young children, but maybe older female dog respectful children may be a match.   HISTORY: He was rehomed when his owner was unable to renew his lease agreement (i.e., weight limit 50lbs). His previous owner received him when he was a puppy after his first owner’s untimely death.   Nakota has been fostered for 6-months and lives with 2 other Catahoula dogs (9-year old male and 2-year old blind female). He gets along with the female not the male, he and the female are playful.   GOOD: He is a really devoted, and smart dog. He will be great to take into your home and will remain by your side.   BAD: He is protective and very selective with humans and dogs. This is not really bad but it is who he is.  He has been socialized a lot and is getting more comfortable meeting new people. So progress has really been made and can be discussed with foster. He just need time, patience and work.
