My Story
Hey, y'all! It's me, Murphy.
I've now been in foster care for
EIGHT.
LONG.
MONTHS.
I understand the first 4 months.
I was undergoing that dreadful heartworm treatment because my first person(s) couldn't be bothered to keep me on heartworm preventative.
Thank goodness for shelters and rescues that care!
But now I'm all healthy, and I can't understand why I don't have a forever home yet.
So...let me just tell you a few things about myself, and maybe you, or someone you know and can share me with, will realize I may be a great addition to the family.
1. I'm super, duper handsome! (Duh!) And I have gorgeous golden brown eyes that are guaranteed to melt your heart every time you gaze into them.
2. I'm not bad on a leash. I walk loose-leash 98% of the time. When I start to pull, all you have to do is "sing" my name and I'll whip around and come to you for a tasty reward.
Foster Mom is also capturing a "heel" when I offer to walk at her side. She says I don't need to hang out there for very long, as our walks are more about sniffing enrichment than obedience, but she swears it's a good thing to know.
3. I've learned to jump on my bed when cued, which is a great start to a "station" cue when you might need me to hang out in my own space for a while.
I also crate well, which is a good thing, since I may like to chew things that aren't exactly mine, if you're not around to keep an eye on me.
4. I am learning "Sit", but right now, only on my bed. Foster Mom is working on something called "generalizing", which she says is me learning to understand that "Sit" can also mean putting my butt on the floor and in various places other than my bed.
No one in my previous home ever bothered to teach me anything, so it's all been new to me.
I like earning treats, so I'm 100% on board to learn all the things you want me to know.
Just please be patient with me.
5. I've been good with dogs my size, and I even ignore the resident , naughty "fence fighter" who tries desperately to elicit a response from me.
Nope.
Sorry.
Not gonna get my goat.
If you have a dog my size already, we can set up a meeting and see how it goes.
6. I am learning to keep "four on the floor", but I occasionally get super excited about something and may forget.
Oops.
I try hard, but it's a work in progress, so maybe little kids aren't a great idea for me until I can 100% control myself.
Nobody's perfect, right?!
If you think you might just be the forever home for me, you can fill out an application at www.barcdogs.org, and my friends at BARC can get a meet and great set up!
You won't regret adding me to the family!
I promise!
Love,
Murphy
