About MOOSE: Moose
is a big. heartbreakingly-beautiful male Mal puppy who is just 9 months old --
his first birthday will be in May, 2009. His owner has asked for our
assistance placing him as she has reluctantly faced the fact that they aren't
set up to deal with the fact the Malamutes just don't care to stay in the yard
off leash :) He's a big boy, weighing in at just under 90 pounds when he
was neutered back around the first of December. As far has how gorgeous he
is, well ... the photos speak for themselves! He's been raised by the same
family from puppyhood, having been with them since he was 10 weeks old.
He's in great health. He is that rare Malamute who is good with CATS and
other dogs! There are photos of him actually nuzzling the kitty, and he's
great with small kids, also as shown in the photos. His owner states that
he was bred in Michigan and came from a long line of champions, though of course
he is neutered and is being adopted as a pet.
His owner writes:
"Moose is housebroken, but he stays in our bedroom with the door closed at night.
If he were let to run the house he might not wait till morning. This is
something an adoptive family would want to monitor to begin with. He always finds a way out of his crate and is never
comfortable in it. My parents have a fenced yard and he does great in it. He
has no known aggression issues. He is very well trained and knows SIT, STAY,
DOWN, HEEL and COME. He has no known phobias and is a little funny about
walking in the mud -- he is kind of a prissy guy ;).
A note on the pics with the cat. The cat wasn't interested
in taking a nap, he just wanted some love from Moose. It may sound crazy,
but Moose grooms the cat. He we lick and do this little nibbling thing on
him, and the cat just loves it! We have two other dogs and Moose is great
with them.
The owner reports
separation issues, though we truly believe there's a good chance that this is
nothing that the opportunity to get plenty of exercise wouldn't make a big dent
it, if not totally resolve. Moose currently doesn't have a fenced yard,
and it's
no secret that a young working breed like Moose not only wants activity, he
NEEDS a high level of activity and stimulation to thrive.
His owner closes:
"He really
is the sweetest dog ever, there is just no way for me to give him what he
needs." If YOU can offer Moose what he
needs, please SEND AN EMAIL
to request more information and/or an adoption application. This
dog's adoption donation is $250. If you know how much it costs to give a new dog responsible vet care, you can easily see that this is quite a bargain!
This dog has had a complete health exam, has already been altered (spayed or
neutered), is microchipped, has tested negative for heartworm, has been kept on heartworm and flea preventative, is fully vaccinated and free of parasites.
What to do if you want to
adopt this dog: Just SEND AN EMAIL to request an adoption application!
We will review your application to determine if there is a good match
between your family and this dog. We may suggest another if we can offer a
better fit in terms of lifestyle, experience, other pets, etc. A vet check, reference checks, and a home visit will be conducted before an adoption can be considered for approval.
NOTE:
In the vast majority of cases, the dogs in our program are rescued from
shelters, and Northern Lights has no means by which to collect or verify a dog's
history. We work in concert with our veterinarians, and breed and age
estimates are based on a combination of professional input and our collective
experience. Our policy with information acquired while the dogs are in our
care is that of "full disclosure". It is our goal to ensure the
adopter has all available information to ensure the best possible match between
the dog and the adopting person or family. In some instances, because of
applicant interest, dogs are in our program for relatively brief periods of
time. If we have identified a temperament or health condition while
the dog is in our care and custody, every effort will be made to correct it prior to
adoption OR the adopter will be made aware of the
issue or condition prior to adoption. Northern Lights' screening process
is designed to select only adopters who are willing, and have the means, to
treat conditions which may occur after adoption, and adopter will be
contractually responsible for doing so.
NORTHERN
LIGHTS IS NOT A SHELTER. We are a rescue comprised of individuals who open their private homes to
foster dogs in need of a second chance.
