Monami

Hello! My name is Monami (pronounced “moan-ah-mee”, HWTH#20203A). I am a Husky mix, born on 9-1-19 and I weigh 40 lbs. My name is the combination of two French words “mon” and “ami” which mean “my friend”. I came to Halfway to Home shortly after I was adopted from the Lancaster shelter because my owner passed away. I am looking for a special mature and compassionate person or couple to give me a forever home with a lot of love and understanding. I have a neurological condition called cerebral hyperplasia. It is caused by the underdevelopment of a part of my brain called the cerebellum, which is responsible for coordination, balance and depth perception. I appear to have only mild symptoms, and only in rare cases does this condition get worse over time. The most obvious symptoms I have is that I walk very “carefully” because I perceive myself being off-balance (very similar to a horse gait), and when you try to give me a treat or throw me ball, I don’t see it right away so it takes a little while for me to find it. I can still run and play, but it is important that my new home keeps me safe from self-harm that can be caused by small obstacles or uneven surfaces. Stairs are very challenging for me so I would need someone with me to guide me up and down. Loud noises startle me so I need a quiet home with no children or other pets. Other than my physical challenges, I am like other Huskies. I love to “talk” and will engage in conversations with my humans. Regular brushing is needed because I shed more than most breeds. A fenced yard would be preferable but I would probably be ok in a condo or apartment as long as it is on the ground floor and I get daily walks to keep me stimulated and fit. So, what do you think?
