My Story

Molly is a small Shih Tzu- Poodle. She is about 3 1/2 years old and weighs about 10 pounds. She is black and white but mostly black. Molly is afraid of men and would do better with an adult female owner. She did adjust to her 1st foster daddy but barked at him for the first few days. Fortunately he just ignored it and was patient with her. She has been in 2 different foster homes and did not do as well with her 2nd foster daddy as he looks a little too much like her previous owner. We do not know which men she will accept and which will remind her of her abuser. Her first reaction with men is to be afraid and fear bite if you get too close. With women she is much more trusting. After a couple days she decides she can trust you and once she can trust you she is a happy little girl just full of tail wags! But it can take her a few days to learn to trust you as she exhibits the behaviors of a dog that has learned to be afraid of being hit by a man and who has learned to guard a woman from being hit by a man. Molly has soo much personality! She is full of kisses and tail wags and loves to be held! Eventually Molly may learn not to be afaid of strangers but in the meantime her new family must be patient with her learning process. Molly cannot just casually meet strangers and must have a more protected environment.
Molly is fostered in Kansas & cannot be adopted on the first meeting. It may take several meetings before she learns to trust, so anyone interested would need to be willing to drive to the foster's place in KS to meet her several times prior to her going to her forever home.

We do not place dogs in homes with toddlers and babies. Please read the shelter home page for placement restrictions prior to submitting an application.
Our Adoption fees are based on the age of the dog and range from $325 to $200 and are used to pay the vet expenses. All dogs are up to date on shots, heartworm negative, spayed or neutered and any known problems are treated before they can be adopted. Last year our vet bills were $3000. higher than our adoption fees, so we are not able to adopt dogs without an adoption fee.
