Are you looking for a sweet little dog to think you're the most awesome person on earth? Well, Mocha would love to move into your lap. She is a very devoted, super sweet and calm chihuahua mix. Most of the time she keeps her ears down, but when she hears a noise and perks them, she looks somewhat like an Italian Greyhound. She has a long, sleek physique and loves to burrow her slender body under blankets.
Mocha was surrendered to the Emergency Animal Clinic because the owners could not afford the emergency vet care she needed. She had gotten out of their apartment weeks before and gotten pregnant and then two weeks before she gave birth, she broke her pelvis. As you would expect, she could not give birth in that condition and suffered for 2 days in labor before they brought her to the vet. She received an emergency C-section to remove the puppies that had passed away and was spayed at that time. Her hip will heal on its own and she is already walking comfortably and shaking her rear end when she wags her tail. Future concerns might involve a little arthritis in the hip when she gets older.
Mocha is a bit shy at first, but happy to be getting attention. She is used to being an only dog but gets along with the dogs and cats in her foster home well. She will sometimes growl at a dog that approaches if she is in her person's lap. She simply gets put on the floor at that point to discourage confrontation, but in general she would do best in a home that doesn't have a lot of lap competition.
Mocha is totally housebroken and taught herself to use the doggy door in only 1 day. She doesn't know how to play with toys or other dogs, but may learn with time and encouragement (and when the residual hip pain diminishes). She walks well on a leash and likes to sunbathe in the yard. Her foster mom has yet to hear her bark and she doesn't appear to have any separation anxiety when she leaves. She is just a sweetie looking for someone to follow and snuggle with.
Update: Mocha has started to play with the other small dogs in her foster family but still has no interest in toys. She also met a 7 and 9 year old boy and did well. She wagged and barked at them, but when they knelt down, she ran right over for petting. We think smaller children may frighten her though.
