Hi there, I'm Misty! I'm a sweet, silly, wiggly friend with a happy zest for life that is sure to make you smile. I have a keen ability to adapt my energy and style to match yours. I'm independent too, meaning I'm not clingy or needy, and I won't constantly bother you for attention. I happily keep myself entertained whenever you're busy with other stuff. It takes me a little extra time to warm up to new people, but once we bond, I will be your friend for life. I just need someone special to believe in me and to give me a chance. I hope that's you!
I'm a 6-year-old, 60-pound beauty, with gentle eyes, adorable ears, and an unassuming, delightful personality. I think I might even already be housebroken. I keep my kennel area clean and I know to go to the bathroom when I get outside. My journey to Wayside was unique and sort of stressful. A stranger adopted me from an over-crowded shelter in Texas, and she brought me to Wayside, where she knew I would be cared for and loved. It was a confusing and scary transition for me, as these things often are, when you're not aware of what's happening and you don't feel in control of your life. I trusted her though, and now I've been busy making lots of new friends at Wayside. I'm hopeful for my future and I'm ready to be part of a family!
Please stay patient and calm with me as I settle in with my new routine. I'm a sensitive soul, so it's important never to be harsh with me. I am one smart cookie, and I will thrive with positive reinforcement training, including praise and encouragement when I'm a good girl. I've already learned the Sit, Down, and Look commands, but I'd love to learn more, so please teach me throughout my life. I hope you will let me go at my own pace when we get home. I sometimes feel afraid and nervous when I first meet new people, so it's important to let me decide when I'm ready to approach them. Once I'm comfortable with you, I am so happy to see you and spend time with you! I can't wait to finally relax, once I know I am home. I love when my volunteer friends take me for walks and give me gentle chest and chin scratches. I love walking and I mostly do well on my leash.
Perhaps my favorite discovery since I've been at Wayside is the existence of field trips! My friends love giving me a break from shelter life, by taking me to the local parks for picnics, hikes, and cuddles. I hop right in the car, wearing my seat belt, but still managing to stick my nose out the open window. Ah, freedom! I love checking out all the great smells as we take a relaxing walk on the trails. I'm not distracted by walkers or bikers, and it's easy to redirect me when I am curious about other dogs. I like splashing in the creek. I keep a nice pace, a mostly loose leash, and I listen well, whether we're jogging or going for a leisurely walk. The one thing that distracts me every time, though, is when I see a squirrel! Hang on for that! Ha! My field trip friends insist that I'm absolutely perfect. Feeling the love from special people makes me feel happy, content, and rejuvenated.
I love, love, love my toys! They make me so happy. I will provide you giggles for days as I prance around the room tossing my toys around in pure joy. I'm gentle taking my treats, which I love. Sometimes I like to play hard with the other dogs I've met at Wayside, but then I get overwhelmed at times too. If you have another dog, I'll be happiest with medium energy, tolerant, respectful dogs. I'm looking for a calm and quiet home without a lot of traffic or commotion. I need a home with kids over the age of at least 6, who can respect my space. Mostly, I'm looking for a home with kind people who can understand my quirks and insecurities, and love me as I am.
My life has been full of instability and change. Through it all, I've tried my best to be a good dog no matter the circumstances. All I've ever wanted is to live a quiet and peaceful yet active life with people I love. It's as simple as that. I know it will happen for me. I have faith. I was meant to end up in Kansas City. I was meant to be your dog.
Love, Misty

ADOPTION INFORMATION: All Wayside Waifs pets are spayed/neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations prior to adoption. Please note that in order to make the best match possible, potential adopters must come to the Wayside Waifs in person to meet with an adoption counselor and complete the adoption process. All members of the household (including other pets, if possible) should be present to ensure the chosen pet is compatible with everyone. We do not place holds or do adoptions over the phone and we do not ship pets.
