My Story
This sweet girl is Clover. She is a 3 yrs old spayed female mini-Australian Shepherd and weighs 33lbs.
Clover was rescued from a very irresponsible breeder who kept her in a 4X4 kennel where she had no social interaction with people or other dogs. She was simply used for breeding. She most likely never stepped foot outside of her kennel. She was extremely fearful of everyone and everything when she first arrived .
When transporting her to New England she had to be carried from one volunteer's car to the next as she was so frozen in fear.
After being rescued, her world as she knew it was turned upside down. When she arrived at her foster home she preferred the safety of her crate, and would be pinned to the far back of the crate. Her entire body would shake with fear when someone would go to touch her. She was afraid to go outside. Once outside she would run back and forth in circles until she was back in the safety of her crate. She didn't trust anyone, and had no idea how to accept love and affection. She would not even play or interact with the other dogs. Clover would not take a treat from your hand, and would only eat when you weren't looking.
All of that said, after months of work she has made great progress in her foster home. She is almost potty trained (although still has an accident here and there), and has been learning to trust people to be kind and gentle with her.
Clover is a very sweet dog, and has shown no aggression at all. She has made tremendous strides, but it is a slow process and not a quick fix. She is learning how to be a dog. She recently started to play with the other dogs, and accepts and enjoys being loved on and groomed. Her fosters have spent a great deal of time just getting her to trust them, and know that no one will ever hurt her again. They have been patient and understanding of her sometimes quirky behaviors. At night she will enjoy laying next to the other dogs and her people, but if someone makes a move she darts back to her crate.
It has taken her a while, but she has decided she likes to sleep in the bedroom at night with the other dogs and her humans, and recently has been jumping up on the bed to snuggle with her foster mom. Clover now approaches on her own to be petted, and is starting to play with the other dogs. She is learning to walk on a leash and really enjoys it, and has started to learn basic commands like sit and come.
Clover is not destructive, and can be left home uncrated (she is never left in her crate with the door closed, as that made her very anxious). She will hang with the other dogs, or just likes being in her crate and observing. She is very healthy and up-to-date on vaccines. She is on flea and tick preventatives as well as heartworm preventatives.
Clover would love a home with a very patient person, or couple, to continue working with her and teaching her how to enjoy life. She would do great with another dog to play with, and learn from. She would do best in a home with the safety of a fenced yard. Clover has shown no interest in cats. Young children have come to visit, but they scare her and she stays in her crate, so no children please. Clover will need someone who understands and accepts her as she is, and all of her quirkiness. She continues to blossom and make strides everyday. She is such a good girl, and will make an amazing companion for the right person(s). Clover is being fostered in MA.
