My Story

Meet Miso! Miso entered Downey Shelter as a stray, and we rescued him in April 2022. He is now 11 years old and weighs 47 lbs. Miso is a very friendly and sweet boy whose special talents include being an expert cuddler, catching treats, and fitting onto laps. Our staff and volunteers love Miso to pieces, and we celebrated his Frostiversary (anniversary of becoming a Frosted Face) with a big birthday party. Miso earns rave reviews for having great leash manners, maintaining a nice steady pace, and being an all-around super hiking partner. Miso has been on outings with volunteers to local parks, restaurants, and wineries, as well as two Frosted Field Trips, spending several days in Julian and in Big Bear with volunteers. He is a loving and lovable sidekick everywhere he goes! Fortunately, for the past several months, Miso has been living in a Foster home through our Molly & Me Project (more information below) and recently celebrated his second Frostiversary! Our greatest wish for Miso is to spend the rest of his Frostiversaries with a Forever Family where he is loved and cherished. We recently received an update from the daughter of Miso's Foster Dad. She shared: "Miso is doing well! He and Dad take long, slow walks every day, at least once, usually twice, morning and evening. Since Dad likes to meet people and talk, Miso has plenty of opportunities to settle down and rest, and he just goes at his own pace. It also means that Miso gets a lot of attention, too. Miso's nickname is Velcro. He follows Dad all over the house, yard, and neighborhood. There have been a couple of times when Dad goes next door, stands in their driveway talking to the neighbor, and forgets to close the side gate right there, and Miso will come wandering out because he didn't find Dad anywhere in the house. Then he settles himself behind Dad's feet. Dad has learned to close the bedroom door, because he'll get followed into the shower - not just the bathroom, but Miso actually sticking his head into the shower! They have a routine that Miso makes sure Dad follows: up early, walk, and have breakfast. They putter about in or out of the house, another walk, dinner, into the yard one last time, and then bed. Both Dad and Miso have discovered the joys of a (human) body-length heating pad. Miso will flop onto Dad, which makes him move over - then repeat until Miso gets the pad. But sleeping mostly atop Dad is Miso's favorite place." If you are looking for a wonderful, mellow buddy, and you don't have other pets in your home, please consider adopting Miso! ************************************************************** MOLLY & ME PROJECT http://frostedfacesfoundation.org/mollymeproject/ The Molly & Me Project is dedicated to senior dogs left behind by their owners that are poorly socialized with other animals, but are incredibly loyal companions to humans and likely have been for many years. Molly and dogs like her are difficult to place and often find themselves in long term isolated kennel boarding or facing euthanasia. The Molly & Me Project was implemented to recruit people that have no other animals who can carry out our mission of family and love dogs like Molly who need to be an only pet long term. INCENTIVES $200.00/month for a term of 12 months We pay for veterinary expenses Donated food and supplies REQUIREMENTS No other animals of any kind in the household Submit weekly photos Live an enriching life and include the Frosted Face Demonstrate ability to avoid scenarios of negligence that would put the Frosted Face or other animals at risk
