My Story

5-26-10: Mickey LOVES the water! He went swimming in the ocean on Monday (Only kids and dogs will swim in the ocean right now!) Then yesterday Mickey's foster family took the dogs to a pond to go swimming. His foster mom thinks Mickey would have kept swimming out after the tennis ball for as long as she would have thrown it! Forty-five minutes of swimming made for very lazy dogs the rest of the day. :)

4-27-10: Mickey is continuing to do great and has now been left free in the house when his foster family goes out for short errands and has been just fine! His foster shares that he loves to play fetch and has plenty of energy for an eight-year-old dog.

Labs are such a great breed with an enthusiastic attitude toward life! Don't let his age fool you - Mickey has plenty of spunk and would make a terrific companion. Apply today - Mickey would love to be your new best friend!

4-20-10: Sweet Mickey continues to flourish in his foster home! He LOOOOOVES to go for walks and starts doing the 'Lab Bounce' when he sees his leash. He is not a big crate fan, but has been sleeping on the floor at night and is doing just fine. Mickey's foster family had some guests over for a birthday party and he had a wonderful time visiting, laying in the middle of the floor and soaking up the attention!

4-11-10: Mickey's foster tells us that if you love a dog that knows how to play fetch, he's your guy! He loves to chew on tennis balls and Kongs!

Mickey's is another heartbreaking story; he is a local surrender who is a victim of our current economy! The ACO in his Maine town called to say that Mickey's family has lost their home and can not take Mickey to their new place. He was living in the garage of a family member where we rescued him from. We are taking care of his vetting needs to get him updated and healthy but he is going to need a forever home to go to soon. He needs to be neutered and have his painful ears and itchy skin taken care of. He is a sweet sweet boy who is a bit confused about why things have had to change. He only knows that the family, especially the 8 year old girl that he has grown up with, is now gone from his life.

Mickey is an 8 year old lab and he will give you many more years of love and loyalty. His family tells us, "Mickey was born in June 2002. We got him on August 9th 2002- he was my husbands wedding present. He is a wonderful black lab. He has allergies to mold. He is great with other dogs and children. He had a bad experience once with a cat that attacked him and ever since he is very timid around them. He loves to play fetch, swim, lay on your lap while you watch tv and sleep near you. I wish we could take him to our new home because I don't want to give him up. Please help me find him a wonderful new home. " In the few days we've known him we found that Mickey is not used to being in a crate so he may be better off gated in a safe area in his new home.

Our adoption fee for senior dogs is $250.00. This will put a dent in the vet care we need to provide to Mickey because his former family was unable to keep him up to date. You can see more info on our fees and adoption process at our website, www.luckypuprescue.org. Email us today for an application.

If you'd like to donate toward Mickey, just click on the "donate" button below and it will take you right to a PayPal donation page. Make sure you put his name in the subject line and we'll make sure the money goes towards his neuter and medications for his ears and skin. And thank you in advance!
