Arrival story: Mia came to a rural shelter as a stray and soon became quite sick. We pulled her out of the shelter shortly after she became ill and immediately sought medical attention for this sweet girl. Mia was on the verge of pneumonia, but with proper treatment, she is now feeling much better!
Approximate age / weight: 8 months old and 35lbs.
Personality: Mia is a sweet little girl with a shiny black coat and petite build. We know that she is a mix breed because of her delicate build and smaller size. Mia can be very shy at first when meeting new people or other animals, but the good news is that she warms up quickly. Mia is very affectionate and has a spark about her along with typical puppy curiosity. She likes to play with her toys, run around and explore, as long as you are in the vicinity.
Mia seems afraid of being abandoned, but this is usually a temporary situation and we are already seeing improvement now that she’s on a consistent routine. Mia has bonded with her foster brothers Teddy (canine) and Scout (feline) and she plays nicely with both of them. Mia is very smart and she’s quickly mastered a number of basic commands, including: sit, shake, come and leave it – and she responds immediately to her name. Mia is good about going into her crate but she’s clearly happiest when she’s out with people.
Mia is fine tuning her house-training skills with no accidents in the last few days. Mia’s foster Mom is making sure she gets regular potty breaks and lots of praise when she’s successful, which will need to be continued in her forever home. Mia has a medium to high energy level, enjoying a good romp of play as well as a nap when she tuckers out her humans!
Forever home:Mia gets along with the dog and cat at her temporary foster home, so we think she will do well in a home with other animals if properly introduced. Since she is young and healthy, she will need a regular exercise routine and will do best in a home with a fenced yard. Mia will continue to need reinforcement on basic training but with patience, there is nothing this girl can’t learn!

Pre-Adoption Application: To be considered for a dog, it is best to submit a pre-adoption application. The Pre-Adoption Application can be downloaded from our website - http://www.waggintailsdogrescue.org/adoptionprocess.html. Just complete the application and email it back to [email protected]
Waggin' Tails Adoption Information: Waggin' Tails Dog Rescue has a standard adoption fee of $175 for adult dogs. Different adoption fees apply for older dogs, small breeds and puppies - $100 for senior dogs (9 years +), $275 for small breed dogs and $200 for puppies plus a $50 deposit which is returned upon proof of spay/neuter at six months of age.
Our adoption process includes an application, vet reference checks, and a home visit.
We do not have a facility; all of our dogs are fostered in private homes. To view our dogs, please check www.waggintailsdogrescue.org for the dates of our next adoption events. To meet a dog in person, please see our event calendar for the latest information. Arrangements can be made to meet our rescue dogs outside of Saturday adoption events after an approved application is submitted (the application does not imply an obligation by the applicant or by the rescue group).
Please be kind to our volunteers who have made rescue a second job that they do in their spare time after coming home from full-time jobs. E-mail inquiries will be answered much more quickly than phone inquiries; our phone number is a voice mailbox only.
Thank you for your support of rescue and your interest in a rescue dog!
