Hi everyone! My name is Mia. I am a lovable, cuddly, sweet ten-month-old Shiba Inu. Even though I look like a fox, many of my behaviors mimic a cat’s. Snuggles, hugs, and lap time are on my terms. I am generally chill and mellow. There are times when I am unsure, anxious, or skittish and will look to my human for reassurance and comfort. Whining is my preferred method of communicating. I’ll whine to go outside to potty, get your attention, and to voice my unhappiness when you leave. I love it when my human gets on the floor to play with me! Chewing on stuffies and bones keep me entertained. You need to make sure that I don’t swallow pieces of the stuffy I chew off.
My favorite activities are being with my human (going to work with you is the best), walks, being outside, getting pets and love. I enjoy giving and receiving kisses – hugging, cuddling, and lap sitting are the best. I will follow you EVERYWHERE. If I am not on my foster’s lap, I have her in sight. Shiba Inu’s are runners and will take off. A slip lead, and training classes, are the best ways to keep me by your side! I am not a fan of car rides. I do better in the back seat and buckled in – only put the window down for my nose to stick out. Otherwise, I will try to jump out through the window!
If you need to leave the house, that is fine – I am crate trained. I will whine, then settle down. At bedtime, put me in my kennel and I will stay there quietly until you set me free in the morning! When outside, I peruse my domain for animals and humans. It is best to keep hold of my slip lead while outside, or getting into/out of the car. I love to run and will use any opportunity to do so.
I am house trained. If you pay attention to my cues (whining and going to the door), there will be no accidents indoors. When I have to potty, I get very annoying and clingy. Once outside, I am easily distracted and may forget to potty. Be patient with me.
I love meeting new people and getting belly rubs!! When playing with younger children, they need to be calm and chill. If they act excited, I will become excited. While living with my foster mom, I have not had any interaction with cats. When meeting other dogs, I am hesitant then will ignore them and focus on the humans!
I am spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Would you like to have a sweet little girl to love and be your BFF? Then I am the pup for you! If you have any questions, please contact my foster mom at:
[email protected].
My adoption fee is $500 (cash or card)
If you want to meet me, I will be at the Apple Valley Petco on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 11 to 2.
Our fosters do the best they can to provide all information about the animal's background and temperament while in foster care in their home. An adopters routine and home environment is likely going to be different than that in their foster home. Sometimes there is more that comes out about a dog's personality once they have been able to settle in a home & truly become comfortable. There are great articles out there written about the different stages a pet goes through after adoption; discussing transitions that happen at 3 days, 3 weeks, & 3 months. We highly recommend reading about this - it will help you understand the transition your new pet goes through.
Last Hope, Inc. is an all volunteer, foster based, no kill rescue! You can see almost all of our dogs on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month from 11am - 2pm at Apple Valley Petco (corner of Cedar Avenue and County Road 42)
Policies: You do not have to have a fence to adopt a dog from us, but some dogs will require a fence or acres to play, or an active family who will make sure the dog gets the exercise it needs to be happy. Some dogs do not have the temperament that will do well with young children.
The Adoption Fee is not enough to cover the vet bills. Sales tax of almost 7.25% is also included in the adoption fee that you see. Please consider donating to Last Hope to help us save these animals!
CAN YOU FOSTER? By taking a dog or puppies temporarily into your home and then coming to our adoption days to help find them homes, we can save more! If you’re interested, please email our office @
