My Story

**Merlin has found his forever family but is still in need of his second hip replacement. Our rescue made a commitment to replace both of his hips when we originally took him and we will still be covering the expenses of his second replacement. Estimated cost of his surgery is $2000. If you would like to donate to Merlin's care, please visit our website at www.GreatDaneFriends.com or our main petfinder page at www.greatdanefriends.petfinder.com - no amount is too small!!!***

Merlin is a very special boy! He is beautiful and is one of the most gentle Danes we have had. Merlin gets along fabulously with all other animals, children, and people he has met. A two year old girl is able to walk him on a leash with no problem. His foster sister Hannah can be quite an energetic puppy and he has all the patience in the world with her and plays very nicely. Also there are two toddlers in Merlin’s foster home and he just loves them too! His temperament is perfect – there is nothing there he needs to improve on. Merlin is a special needs dog right now because of a physical ailment - he has severe hip dysplasia and will need a hip replacement surgery which the rescue will provide for him. Merlin is going to be an exceptional addition to the family he joins.

10/2/09 - Merlin is young dane boy that our organization took in back in May. His previous owner thought she was getting a great deal from a backyard breeder. She took him to her vet to get checked out and it was discovered that he has severe bilateral hip dysplasia. She then realized why she was getting such a great deal and she no longer wanted sweet Merlin. That's when GDFRL stepped up and took him in. Merlin is such a lover and is great with with everything! In his foster home he lives with small children and a smaller dog. He knows basic obedience and just has the absolute best temperament. Merlin has been seen by a specialist and is in need of a double hip replacement. Without this surgery he would certainly continue to be in a lot of pain and have a short life. We won't let that happen!! It is our goal to get Merlin the procedure he needs to live a long, comfortable, pain free life. The procedure to replace both of his hips is going to be very expensive and we are asking for help. Our organization is a non-profit and runs solely on the donations we receive from fantastic people wanting to help dogs in need. We can't do this without you! No amount is too small. We will NOT let Merlin suffer! He goes in for his first surgery on Oct. 16th.

UPDATE 11/4/09 - Merlin has had his first hip surgery and is doing great!!! THANK YOU to everyone who has donated so far. He will be scheduled for his second surgery in about two months, once he's fully recovered from the first. We are still in need of donations for the second part of his surgery. Again, no amount is too small!!! Please help us help Merlin live a pain free life!!

Merlin's adoption fee is $300
