MELLOW YELLOW (Mel)
Location: AL, Coming to New England Soon
Foster Update - Mellow Yellow will be finished with his heartworm treatment in just a couple of days! He is feeling better and already there has been a noticeable increase in his energy, although he would still be described as a lower energy dog!!! Mellow is now really able to show you how excited and happy he is to see you when you first come home or wake up in the morning!
He continues to do great with the other pets in his foster home and has adjusted well to living indoors. We have noticed that Mellow isn’t much for long (or short) car rides. He doesn’t seem to have any interest in looking out the window and whimpers a bit unless he is being petted. But he is so cuddly and sweet his foster family doesn’t mind giving him a little extra attention!

Original Bio - Mel, short for Mellow Yellow, is a gentle Golden/Lab mix who was recently surrendered by his elderly owners. He is just now completing his heartworm treatment and will soon be ready to come north to his forever home.
Mel's foster family describes him as a, "super sweet, cuddle ball of fur"! His previously owners were unable to care for him anymore and so he found his way into our rescue. If you like dogs, and you like cats, and you like dogs who like cats, and you like dogs who act like cats, then Mellow is the pooch for you! Mellow is super relaxed and...well...he is quite mellow! Mellow is great with cats and children, and also gets along well with older adults as he does not jump up and usually stays out from under foot. He gets along well with other dogs and has fit right in with the 3 dogs in his foster home, which range in age from 1 to 9 years old. Mellow just goes with the flow with those pooches, usually lounging with them, but also able to mind his own business (he will occasionally entertain the puppy with a little play). Mellow has a low energy level that has increased slightly since undergoing his heartworm treatment. He is near the end of his treatment now and is almost ready to find his forever home. Besides having very mild cataracts in both eyes, which do not affect his vision, there are no other obvious health issues with Mellow Yellow. He is neutered and up to date on his vaccines.
Mellow is easy-going and would do well in a home with or without other dogs. He was a yard dog in his previous life and has adjusted beautifully to indoor living. Mellow is VERY affectionate, and if you get too busy to give him the love he wants and deserves, he will let you know by nudging you with his wet nose and letting out a sweet whimper! He loves to cuddle with you and is eager to please his people. Since Mellow has a lower energy level, short walks and a healthy diet keep his weight in check. Mellow was a little overweight when he was first rescued, but is currently 56 lbs. of loving, sweet canine! In Mellow Yellow's foster home, he is allowed to venture into the entire home and sleep where he likes. However, he usually just finds a favorite corner and that become his space. Mellow is completely housetrained and does not chew (unless you have a yummy chewy snack!). This boy is a true delight and whoever adopts him is destined to fall in love with him! Mellow says, "I want to cuddle with YOU! Adopt me, please!"
All potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process, including a home visit, before being approved. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Golden’s in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.
