My Story
Say hello to the beautiful and adorable Ms. Mel B! Otherwise known as Mel Bell, this literal sweetheart of a pup was named for her mellow demeanor. Mel B is estimated to be 4-years-old, and currently 75 pounds, but compact and a shorty.
Mel has been an absolute dream since coming to rescue. She is fully house-trained and VERY quiet, we’ve only witnessed her let out a single bark. She is also low-energy, all this girl needs is a quick walk and a momentary excited play, often coming back from said walk. Like any dog new to rescue, she may change a bit, but we imagine she’ll maintain her couch potato status.
Mel B’s musts in a home: Affection. Mel isn’t needy, but she will excitedly give you a kiss, a paw, or just sit and wag her tail with a stair throughout the day to get some affection, a quick morning snuggle and occasional belly rub required. Air conditioning. This big girl overheats easily on hot summer days and will pant the day away without it. Occasional car rides. She loves them, and is mellow in the car. Most importantly, chill vibes and time to stop and smell the grass, she’s great on leash!
Mel B is a perfect dog when left home solo, but does love chilling with her person/people. She’s not big on toys or exercise, but learning to love walks, so human interaction is a must. She hasn’t been crated but does well in a crate if needed, due to her sticking to her spot when you're gone and that she loves to nap, there really is no need or want for this in her future.
Mel B does well with new people and we imagine would be the best of friends with most any kiddos, but she’s a fan of less hustle and commotion, so an energetic house isn't quite her jam. She's very tolerant of anything you throw her way but prefers things mellow over not. As for the vet, she's an absolute rock star, literally, like a rock she doesn't move and will let you mess with her like she never noticed.
Mel would be an exceptionally talented work from home buddy or be stoked to have a family with lots of folks to love on her. Looking for that chill dog to take on park outings or brewery hangouts? She'll melt the hearts of everyone she meets. She is still getting used to being a loved pet, but with positive affection and continued TLC, she'll continue to amaze everyone lucky enough to get to know her.
Mel hasn’t shown much of a prey drive and seems to do well with cats (can further be tested) with no issue, so would likely be cool with a feline friend. With dogs, Mel has done well, slightly interested and at times disinterested, but isn’t big on dogs that want to get riled up, she wants to keep things mellow so prefers less of that hectic play energy. If she were to have a canine sibling, best they'd be relaxed and on the calmer end, she hasn’t lived with another dog since rescue so slow integration is a must.
To know Mel B is to want to squish her face, but to also know how much she’s been through when it comes to her very rough start to life. She was dumped after being used excessively for breeding making her have a bit of a permanent pouch, but it's no bother to her, she just has some extra jiggle.
Mel recently had a small, slow-growing SCMCT tumor removed from her side, likely why she was dumped. Tests confirmed it was fully removed and unconcerning. This girl is as healthy as she’s ever been. Medical details and any other notes can be further discussed in an initial conversation with her foster should it seem like a potential fit.
