My Story

 Megan …Needs your help… 1/17/08 update

Megan came to us as a Sweet special needs Irish Wolf Hound  in need of dedicated and loving forever home.  Poor Megan has a problem called megaesophagus. We had to find a rehabilitative foster home and quick as Megan was very weak and weighed in at only 31 pounds. Luckily an affiliate rescue All About them Giant Breed Rescue, stepped up to the task and arranged a therapeutic foster home.

Poor Megan was only there a day or two before it became apparent that she has pneumonia. All About Them took her to the hospital where she has remained now for almost 2 weeks. In that two weeks we have been told this girl has the worst case of primary megaesophagus the vet has seen, she has pneumonia and she has addisons disease. Megan will not be able to be adopted, she will need to remain in a therapeutic sanctuary environment for as long as she is comfortable.

So we are looking for a few big hearted Irish Wolf Hound people willing to contribute to her care, we are not asking for a lot. We are just asking for a couple of people to take her into their heart and make a small donation on an ongoing basis. This donation would go straight to all about them and be tax deductible. Initially all money will be applied to her vet bill which quickly climbed into the thousands and then the money can be applied to sanctuary care.

This is what her initial evaluator wrote about her

Megan is an absolute dear of a dog.  When I went to photograph her, she made an instant connection with me.  She is super loving, accessible, related and wants to please.   She wants nothing more than to be near.  I had a special connection with her the minute I saw her.  I see hundreds of dogs as a trainer, but Megan, has that certain “it” -- that charm, loving nature, intelligent mind and tractable “wanting to please” attitude.  She follows one around, yet can be left alone.  She accepts life on life’s terms easily.  She has the sweetness of honey and the smartness of a border collie.  I have watched her learn over the period of a couple of weeks to leap up and back her behind into the Bailey chair all on her own.  Then she patiently stays there after eating as she knows she has to wait a certain period of time.  She then puts her head in your lap while waiting her time out. With some care, she will be a breathtakingly beautiful dog.  Her eyes are coming to life and she has a deep soul.  In spite of her physical troubles, she is a merry little spirit.  She embodies a lot of joy and loves the other dogs as well.  Her siblings are similar — loving, soulful, intelligent dogs that want to please.  I am not in the place to have a second dog, but if I were, she would be my choice, She is one terrific dog with a spectacular temperament and will make somebody a lifetime soulmate.  She needs a big hearted person for her big hearted spirit.
