My Story

Meet Maverick, the sweetest most handsome boy, so smart and trainable, great with other dogs and humans, LOVES toys, treats and snuggles. Maverick is here to steal your heart! This 44-lb 8-month-old bundle of joy is a delightful mix of German Shepherd and Catahoula Leopard Dog, though with rescue pups, it’s always a bit of a fun mystery! Maverick can be shy with new humans at first, but he warms up quickly. Give him a minute and a treat, and he’ll be your new best friend. Maverick’s “shy” nature is adorable to watch- he’s definitely hesitant with new people, but he’s also very excited to make a new friend. Maverick approached me first, crawling, scared but eager to greet me. He’s a rescue pup, and we don’t know his history, so we excuse his silly little quirks- though, this is one of the silliest rescue-dog-quirks I’ve seen to date. Once he’s warmed up to you, Maverick is SOOOO affectionate. This boy will give hugs, leaning his head against your shoulder, and he’s a BIG kisser. Maverick just asks for a few belly rubs in return! Maverick has better manners than most people, always waiting patiently for his turn. With other dogs around, Maverick is quick to allow others to receive affection, good at sharing toys, and respectful of boundaries. Maverick is a canine socialite. He loves hanging out with other dogs and is always polite, taking breaks during playtime like a true gentleman. With humans, Maverick takes correction well. Maverick’s politeness also applies to his steadfast adherence to the rules- you won’t have to repeat yourself too much with Maverick. In his foster home, Maverick isn’t allowed on the couch, and when we invited him up onto the couch at the rescue, it took quite a bit of convincing. Maverick is a rule-follower, and this makes for such a great dog. Maverick is also great with kids. A hit with the younger crowd, he’s always ready for some kid-approved fun. Maverick loves his toys, especially the squeaky ones and his beloved antler, which he carries around like a trophy. Maverick will chase balls and play tug of war, he’s truly such a joy to be around. Maverick’s motto? “Will work for treats!” He’s a foodie who loves everything from dog biscuits to fruits and veggies. He’s treat motivated, which will make training a breeze. Maverick is a quick learner! Sit, stay, roll over—he’s got it covered! Maverick is working on his leash skills, but he's a smart boy and well on his way to mastering the art of walking on a leash with help from you! In the car, Maverick is easy and quiet. He won’t roam around the cabin or bark at his surroundings, he’s just happy to be along for the ride. Maverick is looking for a family that will shower him with love, treats, and belly rubs. He’s eager to continue building his confidence and doggy skills, and he’d thrive in a home where he can get plenty of affection and playtime. A doggy sibling would be a bonus, and he’s still young enough to learn to live with a cat. Here at the rescue, Maverick has been cat-tested, and we believe that he’s well suited to live with kitties. Maverick is not just any dog—he’s a smart, affectionate, and playful superstar who’s ready to bring laughter and love into your home. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will keep you entertained and loved, Maverick is your guy. Your adoption fee is considered a donation towards actual costs. Why adopt from Three Little Pitties? The stray and animal overpopulation in the Greater Houston area is the highest in the nation. Statistics show that there are over 1 million homeless animals in this region alone. Three Little Pitties Rescue is a nonprofit dog and cat rescue that partners with the community to make a difference. Our mission is to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and saving all breeds of dogs and cats from the streets or animal shelters that oftentimes have no other option but to euthanize animals for space. This dog you’ve found online is lucky to be in our program, and even luckier to have you notice it! Three Little Pitties wants to set you and your new pet up for success! We know our dogs and we work hard to prepare them socially for adoption. We are a network of dedicated people who are heavily invested in seeing our animals thrive. From the moment they are accepted into our program, our Intake, Behavior & Medical teams prepare them for adoption by properly vetting, behaviorally assessing, and providing customized plans depending on the dog’s needs. We provide weekly socialization programs for our dogs through playgroups and group leash training classes available to all dogs in our adoption program, and Doggy Sleepover, Doggy Day Out, and Ambassador programs for our boarding dogs. There is a professional dog trainer on staff to provide support for our fosters and dogs, and an off-site dog trainer for dogs that need more extensive behavior modification. This helps us learn deeply about every dog, prepare them for adoption, and ultimately match them with loving families. We seek to adopt to families who understand that these are rescue dogs and will require continued training effort but will be well on their way to being the best dogs that they can be! It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these special perks: • A free private online dog training session with GoodPup plus low pricing for future sessions (approx $25 weekly for an 8-week course of one session per week) • One free bonus toy in every BarkBox when signing up for their Super Chewer subscription plan • 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a PNW based, organic fresh dog food loaf meal subscription plan • Coupons for a fun visit to Petco • Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! We celebrated our 6-year anniversary this year! Through the combined efforts of all of our hardworking staff and volunteers, we have placed over 13,000 very lucky dogs and cats into amazing homes! By adopting from us, you save TWO lives! The pet you adopt, and you create an opportunity for another animal to be saved in that spot. Together, we can be heroes.
