Mateo is the sweetest, cutest, silliest little guy…well at least 95% of the time. About 5% of the time his other personality takes over and he’s a little Tasmanian devil.  Mateo came from the shelter covered in painful mats so you can imagine his life was not pleasant. He carries that fear with him and for a little guy he can really pack a punch when messed with. He doesn’t seem to have a preference for men or woman…he’s an equal opportunity finger biter. If you want a little guy that needs to be groomed but HATES being groomed, Mateo is your guy!  Despite trying to take some of her fingers, the groomer loved him and said she could see what a sweet little guy he could be. And If you like to be the center of attention at the vet’s office, Mateo will be happy to help you with that too!  He carries the title of snippy little dog with great pride.  We considered bringing in a professional roper to get him leashed the first couple of days.  BUT In all honesty, Mateo just needs someone who has some patience to help him gain confidence. He now loves going on walks and will do a happy dance when the leash comes out, which is an improvement!  He is smart, and quickly associated the leash with walks and leashing is no longer an issue.  His Tasmanian devil side only comes out when he is scared. Since he has been in a steady foster home he has learned to relax and is slowing beginning to trust.  He is good with other dogs and cats.  He loves to cuddle on the couch and will even play fetch and toss it back!  Mateo just needs an adopter with dog experience and who is willing to give him the time he needs to gain trust and confidence. Given some time, structure and consistency, we think little Mateo will turn into the amazing companion he was meant to be.
