My Story

MASON - The case of the abandoned Doberman If Perry Mason were on this case, chances are he might have found our abandoned Dober-orphan a lot sooner. Apparently Perry was investigating a different case because a neighbor noticed that they had not seen human or dog at the house next door for quite some time. When the authorities were finally called, it was discovered that 4 year old Mason had been living on his own in that empty house for about 3 weeks, abandoned by his owner and starving to death. This poor Dober-boy was only a mere 46 pounds and vet records indicate that at Mason's last visit he was 80 pounds! It wasn't a surprise to discover that he also had 4 abscessed teeth. Mason's nails are so long that they can only be clipped a millimeter at a time or they bleed uncontrollably. Even though this guy was a mess and his condition added up to years of neglect, the first thing Mason did when he arrived at Illinois Doberman Rescue was to smile at his foster folk's cat! And that is when we noticed he had not been using tartar control tooth paste! Well, he's had 4 infected teeth extracted and we are happy to report that his smile is still quite wonderful. He eats every meal as if it is his last - can you blame him? We are clipping his nails a little at a time and a recent weight check shows he is now up to 69 pounds. As he continues to feel better Mason is enjoying the company of his foster brothers and sisters. His eyes sparkle at the child he shares his home with, however his lean is gaining strength so caution should be exercised around small tots. We expect as Mason continues to thrive on Aunt Lillian's diet for starved and toothless Dober-boys, he will be ready very soon to start interviewing prospective forever homes. Right now Mason is lamenting his missing teeth in addition to his missing manhood and Foster Dad is providing a very comfortable couch for Mason to recuperate on. If you are interested in scheduling an interview and have completed the adoption application process, please contact Lillian and Paul Santschi, 1-815-652-3790, [email protected]. Only pre-approved applicants with a willingness to brush Mason's teeth on a regular basis will be considered!
