Mars

Mars loved and accompanied his elderly person for half a decade. When the person died, Mars was discarded in an overfull shelter and put on the PTS (put-to-sleep) list when families chose dogs with more bounce in their step. Only the caring of the staff saved him, calling and emailing rescues to find one that could foster this dear dog. What a tragedy it would have been to lose this sweet, calm, loving and EASY boy! From those scars on his muzzle, his life wasn’t always pleasant, but no trace of anger lingers in his gentle nature. He likes little more than lying by his person or on their lap, or just hanging out with them. He does not object to being put into a crate as necessary, is fine on lead, never barks annoyingly and has been very reliable in his housetraining. This is an IDEAL dog for a person who works and can’t spend all day entertaining a dog and wants a loving evening/weekend companion, or for an elderly person who wants a calm and easy-care dog to love. Mars is a good eater, not fussy, and always polite. His health is fine, his short coat requires very little care, he arrived neutered and has been fully vetted and so up to date on all needed for this year. He doesn’t mind other dogs or cats, but doesn’t need a dog playmate, either. Even if you hadn’t considered a mature dog, if your lifestyle means you must leave the dog home alone days, you may find that a mature dog is the perfect dog for you. Mars could literally not be nicer. Warning: he’ll steal your heart in minutes. Mars is estimated at about 7 years old, a smooth-coated Russell Terrier, and [patiently adhering to his diet] now weighs in at about 16 pounds with another pound to lose.
