Thank you for visiting Mardi! By choosing to adopt a dog through C.A.R.E.S., you are not only giving a wonderful dog a forever home, but you are allowing us to rescue another dog on death row. You are also choosing to support a true no-kill rescue organization. Thank you!.
Isn’t she just a cutie? Mardi is a Hurricane Katrina survivor. After the hurricane, she was skinny and starving and was taken in by a caring person, who brought her back to health. Unfortunately, the caring person couldn’t keep her any longer and surrendered her to the New Orleans Animal Rescue League, who in turn surrendered her to Best Friends, where C.A.R.E.S. rescued her from when they were closing their compound in New Orleans. What a journey for this special girl! She is a young girl between 1-2 years old, a mixed breed of probably Shepherd and Lab. She weighs about 35# and is just the sweetest thing in the world!
Mardi is fine with other dogs, we don’t know about cats yet. She is playful and enjoys attention. She will retrieve stuffed toys, but doesn’t give them up willingly yet. We are working on that. She’s very smart and learns quickly. She already knows SIT, is pretty good with COME and goes DOWN with help. She also likes to SHAKE.
Mardi ishousetrained and crate trained. She just goes with the flow, appreciative to be alive and loved.
Like 80% of the dogs in New Orleans, she has heartworm disease. She will be treated before she can be adopted. We don’t have a date for her treatment yet, but we are taking applications for her adoption, so please request an application if you’d like to give this gentle survivor a loving home.
This dog's adoption fee is $300 (plus tax). This includes being spayed/neutered, current on Rabies, Distemper, and Bordetella vaccinations, wormed, microchipped with the HomeAgain microchip, heartworm tested (negative) and medicated during the heartworm season (May-Dec) while in our care, comes with a Gentle Leader headcollar (if we feel it is needed), and is currently learning Basic Obedience commands and good doggie manners.
The first step in our adoption process is to fill out an application. If you'd like to have an application emailed to you, just email us. Thank you!
