Maple

The Marvelous Mrs. Maple Vermont is just as fantastic as her name would suggest she is. Maple is a gorgeous girl with the prettiest golden eyes you’ve ever seen! If snuggling was an Olympic sport, Maple would take the gold. She is a champion snorer, and she is without a doubt, your goodest girls favorite goodest girl. Maple was found living in an abandoned house with her puppies and is adjusting very well to her new life as an indoor pup. Maple is incredibly smart and in an incredibly short amount of time she has already mastered the “place” command for her crate training. She began the process thinking that the crate was a death trap- but now she not only happily goes in when you tell her “place,” but she is also very well-mannered in the crate. She has also mastered both “sit” and “lay down,” which is impressive when you consider that she knew zero commands when she arrived! She is currently working on even more basic commands (paw, stay, leave it, etc) and is VERY close to being completely housebroken. Maple is a master at taking treats very gently. She is very dog friendly and does happy, submissive meets. She is also cat friendly- we have had two experiences with her cat interactions- one of her foster family’s cats mostly ignores Maple and is ok with Maple giving her sniffs and they get along great while the other cat hisses when Maple tries to sniff him which caused Maple to bark and the cat to run and Maple to follow. Maple has never aggressive with the cats, just barked in response to the hissing- and after a couple of weeks with supervision and allowing them to co-exist they are settling and getting comfortable. Maple is also child friendly and has been living with two boys in her foster home- a 6-year-old with Autism and ADHD that makes Donnie Thornberry from The Wild Thornberrys look calm, and a 12 year old. Maple is extremely responsive to direction and correction- she listens to a “uh-uh” for redirection exceptionally well. She has also learned to play and to love toys recently, some of her favorites are squeakers, items that give her a chance to chew on appropriate items, and unstuffed stuffies that she can toss in the air and frolic with! She loves to sleep in bed and is happy to either snuggle next to you or sleep at your feet. Maple is definitely more timid until she learns that she can trust you (which she is very open to with positive reinforcement, consistency and predictability- oh and treats….lots of treats!) There is no doubt about it, once this girl settles into your family- she will be your best friend forever. **Maple is currently ONLY available as Foster to Adopt. She is currently heartworm positive, and has just started her heartworm treatment protocol, which is completely covered by the rescue.
