My Story

Mama Chica is full of pep & loves to run like she’s a puppy. She is FAST, her playstyle is rambunctious & a little mouthy. She loves playing chase with either her humans or another dog - even a larger dog. If there are no toys laying around she will pick up an adult shoe and take off with it, but she has not chewed up anything at home with her foster family. Mama is not afraid of playing with a large dog & will taunt them to play with her. She is pushy but needs a slow introduction & supervision until the pecking order is established because make no mistake Mama definitely wants to be alpha. She does growl and snap until the other dog realizes who is calling the shots so it’s best if other dogs are non-reactive. Mama does do some resource guarding with food & should be fed separately from other dogs. She gravitated toward foster mama first and it took her about 2 weeks to establish relationship with a senior GS & 18 month old Doberman, both males, and foster dad, but there was also a litter of 5 puppies present for the first three weeks. In the evening Mama does want to curl up on the couch next to a human & warns other dogs off but settles down once she is corrected. A good thing is Mama can be very cuddly, likes to wait on the bed while her human takes a shower. She sleeps peacefully all night in a small kennel at foot of the bed but does not like to be shut in a separate room. Sleeps almost 9 hours at night, also lays in her kennel voluntarily during the day as her “safe space“. At bedtime we say “Go to your kennel. Go to bed“ and she goes straight in with no fuss. Mama is let outside immediately upon waking, potties outside & in urgent times mostly hits the potty pad dead on. Mama eats 2X day about 10 hours apart then immediately goes outside to do her daily business twice a day. Very seldom has an indoor accident. Riding in a car the only place Mama feels safe is between the drivers legs which is dangerous, so it is best if she is kenneled in a car. With regular daily practice, she is perfecting walking on a leash. Sometimes she gets distracted out in the wide, wide world and spins, so a halter is better than a collar when walking. If Mama Chica is the only dog in the home, she will need to be socialized often or she can be possessive of her human. She has a very loud BARK! We say we don’t need a doorbell. we have Mama Chica! Best if her adopter does not live in a home with common walls.
