My Story

******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision-making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Maggie May, 5 years old, spayed female, Pitbull/Catahoula mix, 50 pounds. She is in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS and can transport to an approved adopter. Please note, she is physically located in the State of Texas. Maggie May was a volunteer favorite at the city shelter where she was saved off the euthanasia list and it is clear to see why - she is incredibly sweet and strikingly good looking! Before you think she is only just a beauty, she's got the brains and brawn to go with it. Maggie knows several commands including "sit," "down," "stay," "break (go)," "touch" and "heel." She also helps get rid of any Amazon boxes to ensure continued marital bliss. :) She is fully house- and crate-trained but could use some additional leash training as she tends to pull - a harness or Gentle Leader head collar would be great tools here. She loves playing fetch and will do just about anything you want for a toy, so training has been made much simpler! With a toy nearby, Maggie will even allow you to clip and file down her nails with zero fuss. Maggie May is dog friendly but is confident enough on her own to not require a companion and would actually really love having your attention all to herself. She has met other dogs and is very excited when first meeting but does well. She gets quite vocal when being introduced to dogs - lots of grunts and whimpers and scurrying about - and some dogs may not like this overexuberance, so proper introductions should be conducted to ensure all goes well. We have found dog parks are too overstimulating for her. She is a solid moderate energy dog: she needs no more than a couple walks a day and she really loves them. She would love a home where she can go on sniff walks, play fetch or tug-o-war, "brain" games, or obedience training to satisfy her mental needs. Given her love of toys and fetch, Maggie could also excel at a sport or agility training! She is not bouncing off the walls but also isn't a total couch potato. When she is lounging on the couch, expect to see a toy or two (or all!) nearby. Maggie May has a touch of separation anxiety but it is not destructive or extreme - she whimpers as a form of self-soothing when her person is not nearby. She also paces around and nests her blankets but has never chewed up or eaten anything she shouldn't. As a general household rule, she is crated for meals and when unable to be supervised but can sleep loose in her room or with you. She has great house manners - she does not "over" bark and will alert only when startled or if someone comes to the door, she pays no mind to the vacuum and does not get into the trash. We have no history with cats although she will see them while out walking and does not pay them any mind. She has met kids aged 2-4 years old and she LOVES them but has knocked them over with her tail wags. We typically recommend homes with kids 10 years or older, or those who can understand and will respect animal behavior cues. Maggie May is very affectionate with people and greets everyone as though they were a long-lost friend. She gives nose kisses and the occasional lick but finds being close enough to touch (but not actually touching) is sufficient for her needs. Maggie May is very loyal and has a strong desire to please her human. She rides well in the car and loves going on adventures (grabbing coffee) with her person. She can be possessive of her toys so these should be kept separate from other animals in the house. She would do best in a home willing to provide structure and boundaries as she thrives falling into line. ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt her?
