If canine companions could speak, Maggie would tell you all about the surprise her former owners got when she grew from a small cuddly puppy into a very big dog in no time at all. Most people rarely think past the present when bringing a cute and cuddly little puppy home, and Maggie was one of the cutest little pups her former owners had ever seen. Although unaware of the forthcoming change in Maggie’s stature, her formers owners were well prepared for the trials of puppy-hood and coped with the chewing, crying, potty training, and constant demands that are always part of the puppy package. They did a good job of caring for their beautiful little girl and Maggie was happy, secure, and loved, but just like people, most canine companions attain physical maturity before they mature emotionally and mentally, and Maggie was no exception. When Maggie suddenly changed from a small high energy bundle of joy into a large high energy axis of chaos who thundered about the house like a Union Pacific freight train gone wild, her elderly guardians realized that the time had come for Maggie to move on.
Maggie is now living in a DogsOnly foster home where she has the space and freedom to churn up mushroom clouds of dust as she skids about in play with her newfound canine companions. Only 11 months old, Maggie, a Great Pyrenees mix, has already sprouted to 100 pounds. An alpha female, Maggie gets along well with other dogs so long as they are willing to accept her dominance. She would probably do best as an only dog or in a home with a male canine companion. She has grown up with Baby Duke, who is also available for adoption from DogsOnly. Maggie and Baby Duke got along famously, and despite Baby Duke’s massive size and occasional boisterous exuberance, they two of them remain the very best of friends.
While Maggie teaches the other dogs at DogsOnly how to charm dust devils out of calm air, she will continue to live in a foster home in Little Rock. A fee applies to her adoption, but this covers all of her vet care to include spay, rabies, all vaccinations, micro-chipping, Frontline for flea/tick preventative, HW check and preventative and payment of 50% of basic training classes. Because of her size and breed mix, we would encourage you not to consider adopting her if you do not have experience with Great Pyrenees or other large breed canine companions. A high energy canine like Maggie is going to need high grade food and regular check ups at the vets to ensure she continues to develop and grow without problems, and she will certainly need plenty of exercise, attention, and consistently firm supervision. Homes with small children would to well to consider a smaller breed, because a young canine companion like Maggie could easily knock small children down during play. You can complete an online adoption application by clicking the orange colored text links at the top or bottom of her official bio page located at www.dogsonly.org/219pop.html, or email us at
