MAGEE*

Magee is the cutest, most compact little hippo at PACC! He is truly loved by everyone at the shelter and deserves a home of his own. He recently spent a short time in foster home: Magee was a delightful houseguest and quickly demonstrated his ability to adapt to new routines and environments in a positive manner. Here are some things I learned about Magee: - He is housebroken and had zero accidents while with me. - He was non-destructive in the home. - He was tolerant and playful with my resident dog, a similar-sized 9-year-old female. - He did well meeting several new people during his time with me, including men and children. He greeted everyone with a wagging tail and would soon flop over for belly rubs. - Magee is working on crate training; at first he was reluctant to go in his crate. By day two, after watching my resident pup use her crate, he would willingly enter with a couple of treats tossed inside and settle much faster. He slept in the crate overnight and was left for a few hours when I left the house without issue. He rested quietly the entire time. - He loves toys! He will quickly de-stuff and de-squeak his toys, so he needs tough chew toys. He does great with Nylabones and hard rubber toys. His favorite toy is a tennis ball which he may be protective of, but he will exchange any toy for a treat when playtime is over. - Magee is not a barker. I heard him bark once the entire time I had him He is overall very quiet in the home. Magee may do best in a home with older children as he lacks spatial awareness and can knock over a small child when he gets the zoomies. He would love to have a compatible playmate to keep him company. Magee is a well-socialized, loving, playful dog that aims to be attentive and obedient. He bonds with his person quickly and can be a bit of a velcro dog. He thrives with structure, patience, and understanding. Heres what his volunteer pals have said: Magee is one of my favorite walking buddies. He always greets me with a wagging tail and a huge smile. He loves his treats and leashing is easy while he savors a snack. He loves the fresh air and can pull a bit as we exit, but he generally settles into a nice pace once we leave the shelter. He alternates between inspecting every interesting scent and checking in with me, and I'd have to say we make a great team. Fresh dew on the grass makes a wonderful bed for rolling around and soliciting belly rubs. The bushes around the shoreline often hide those sneaky birds, so we have to check every one. His great sit and huge grin earn him frequent treats, which he takes from my hand with a gentle mouth. Magee is a fine dog who will form a loving bond with his forever partner. Magee is a compact bundle of joy, always ready to greet his friends with the perfect, slobbery smile and expressive ears. He settles into a nice walk and sometimes will go for a short jog, but those little legs get tired quickly. He LOVES to play fetch and chomp on a tennis ball. He will exchange the ball for a treat or swap for another ball. He will play fetch as long as you let him, or until he sees an opportunity for pets. I find a bench and he will sit right next to me, or more often, climb onto my lap. Magee is truly one of my favorite pups to spend time with. Magee shares his kennel politely and has been social and tolerant when meeting other dogs in playgroup. Hed like meet any resident dogs before heading home to make sure it's a good fit.
