My Story

Madison (aka Maddie) is a 3 year old female Bernadoodle dog, who says she is done churning out puppies and now just wants to learn how to be a dog and receive unconditional love from her new family. Maddie is very dog friendly, but she hasn't been tested with cats. Having lived as a puppy mill mama, she is used to dogs being around likes to play with the other dogs. For this reason, Maddie MUST have at least one other confident dog companion in her new home, one that will show her the ropes, let her know it's safe, and to play and run around outside with her. Her foster mama has three other dogs and she seems to feel good being in a group of doggos, but has bonded more to the dog that is the most confident and playful. She is more shy and timid with humans and might take a few weeks or a few months at minimum to warm up to her new adoptive family. Due to her shyness, we are recommending an adoptive family that does not have young kids. Slow, quiet and steady movements from her humans and a quiet home environment will help her ease into her new home life and adjust to the sounds of a new home. Madison will need her own personal space inside for a bit at first, without expectation or pressure from her new humans, until she feels comfortable in her new surroundings to continue exploring. Maddie will also need a tall physical privacy fence. She is skittish of new things and new noises, and currently feels threatened by the leash, so a privacy fence is a MUST for short and long term success in her new home. Due to her fear of the leash, she is just starting to be exposed to leash walking. She recently discovered dog toys and thinks they are quite fun!! She loves the thick stuffed animals! She also loves being outside with her dog friends and running around chasing each other, or running after a ball. Since she is not fond of leashes, her primary source of exercise will be running around in her fenced in backyard with her new dog friends, chasing after her playful dog friends or after a ball. Maddie is scared of the dog crate so she sleeps on a dog bed every night next to her dog friends and also enjoys lounging on the couch with her human and dog friends. She has a tendency to squeeze in next to other dogs and finds comfort in other dog friends that will cuddle next to her. When her foster mama runs errands or is away from home, and she does quite well having her own space in a separate room to relax in. REQUIREMENTS: No apartments/condos Tall physical privacy fence Confident dog or dogs as companions in her new home No young children Lots of patience and acceptance Adoption fee is $350 and includes spay/neuter, microchip, fecal/deworming, vaccines and prevention up to date. Ohio residents only. STS is a foster-based and volunteer-run rescue. We do not have a physical location or set hours for you to meet dogs, and it does take time to answer each inquiry. All dogs are in foster homes and once an application is approved and a home visit is completed you will be able to schedule meet and greets with available dogs. We encourage interested individuals to get approved prior to searching as it helps expedite the process. A Petfinder inquiry is not a substitute for an application.
