My Story

Here's Mad Max. He is probably one of the most handsome dogs I've seen, and I've seen a lot! He is black/white where he has hair, as part Chinese Crested he doesn't have hair on the lower half of his body. Max is up to date on vaccinations, is fairly housebroken, is neutered and is 7 years old. Please read carefully!! Max came to us about a year ago. I don't know exactly what his backstory is, however, Max has either been abused or had an accident (hit by car?) that wasn't treated. His jaw does not line up, it was broken and not set, and he is missing quite a few teeth. His eyes don't always work together so he has a difficult time picking things up, like dog treats. He has some neurological issues, maybe traumatic brain injury, that causes him to become very anxious and stressed. So he is a special needs dog in a big way! Max is a gentle dog, he can seem aggressive but its just stress and when he gets going I just him up and he calms down. He doesn't like black plastic bags - if he sees one he barks, paws at his face (stress) and runs in circles. He also exhibits that behavior at random, I'm never really sure what sets him off. He does like being outside in the yard and will get the zoomies. Max is currently living with 8 other dogs in a kennel-free environment. He gets along with the others, but is standoffish due to his anxiety. He likes being in his cubby (a separate dog area with a 12 inch gate across that he could certainly jump over but doesn't). His favorite activity is scooping all the dry dog food out of the auto-feeder, and he is not good at putting it back. The perfect home for Max is as an only child, or with an older, not very active dog. He's fine with cats. He needs a person who will be very patient, calm, loving and whose mission is to nurse him back to mental health. I do not recommend kids as the chaos would be too much for him.
