My Story

ADOPTED! - UPDATE ON LUCKY: Lucky has been treated for his intestinal parasites and his urinary tract infection. He is also receiving supplements for his arthritis, and he is presently being treated for heartworms. (After the heartworms are gone, we will be able to have him neutered, and he will have a much-needed dentistry done.) Sadly, the veterinary opthamologist who examined Lucky says that he will probably never regain his sight. But....dogs don't depend on sight as much as they do on their sense of smell and their hearing, so he should be able to slowly adjust to living in a world of darkness. He is already acting more comfortable and he's much happier--and he loves sleeping on his very soft furry pillow, which is a luxury he has never known before. A very sincere thank-you goes out to those people who have donated toward Lucky's care! LUCKY'S ORIGINAL STORY: A kind hearted person found this very thin little dog stumbling and wandering aimlessly in a residential neighborhood, and no one knew where he belonged. Our best guess is that someone dumped him out, but....that's not the saddest part of the story. This little guy had a huge bump on the top of his head (our vet guesses he was either hit by a car or was purposely beaten by someone). And it wasn't long before we discovered why poor "Lucky" had been wandering aimlessly: he was totally blind! (Both his lenses are displaced, probably as a result of whatever injury he incurred.) Can you imagine how terrified and alone he must have felt, wandering alone in the dark? Our vet immediately started Lucky on some medication to take down the swelling on his head--and to combat any infection he might have--and it was while he was being treated for his head injury that we discovered that Lucky also has heartworms! (Lucky badly needs a dentistry as well, and he has a very enlarged prostate--which will eventually resolve itself once he's neutered.) This sweet little guy has never known love or a warm soft bed or a good hearty meal. We would like to give him a chance to be healthy and happy, but heartworm treatment (and eye surgery) is very expensive, so we are turning to YOU for help. We know these are rough economic times for everyone, but if you could spare even a few dollars, it would help us SO much in our efforts to save Lucky. Our rescue organization is very small and we don't receive any financial assistance or subsidies. But, we believe in miracles and--with YOUR assistance--we hope to give Lucky the opportunity to be healthy, and--if possible--even to have the damage to his eyes repaired by a canine opthamologist. Wouldn't that be a miraculous, happy outcome? We think you will agree that Lucky deserves a better life than he's had up until now. But it is only with YOUR help that we will be able to give him the medical treatment that he needs. Our PayPal account is: [email protected] or--if you prefer--you can send a check (to Columbus Countryside Vet Clinic, N4359 Temkin Rd. Columbus, Wi. 53925) or call our clinic (920-623-3366) with your credit card donation. (We are now an officially recognized not-for-profit organization, so your donation is tax deductable.)
