We are monitoring our ability to show dogs based on Science Based CoVID guidance but are reviewing applications for the best fit for each dog.
Warm, provocative gentle eyes that subdue, kindred spirit soul mate. Lottie is an incredibly sweet pup who came to MAPS after her previous “owner” could no longer care for her and her time was up at the local shelter in southern Illinois. Lottie was pulled just in time before her time was up. Lottie has been thriving in her foster home and loving life. She is a great home body dog and is one of the most affectionate dogs in the house.
When outside Lottie enjoys outside lounging in the sun, watching the birds and sprinting around the fenced yard in short bursts. Lottie will grab a toy and then spring around the yard with it. She ends up dropping it a few times and has to run back to get it before continuing her route. Once she is worn out she will jump up on the picnic table to breath in the fresh air and take in all life has to offer outside.
Lottie also loves her walks and is working on focusing and avoiding distractions. Lottie walks well on her harness & leash combo, and continues to make good progress. She is still working on pulling, but will listen and does a good job checking in.
More than anything Lottie loves her people. She lovingly greets with an endearing low howl while wiggling with excitement. She’s also quite the cuddle-bug, soaking up all the pets and love she can. Lives to be lying close to you and snuggling. Lottie loves to nap with people on the couch or sit next to you while you read a good book.
Lottie has had some exposure to other dogs in a controlled environment. She is very playful, but can be dog selective. Lottie is crate-trained and is at ease in her crate. We have loved getting to know Lottie and think she would make a great companion.
Application Process
MAPS’s adoption process is designed to help best place dogs with homes that are in the best interest of the dog and their human companions. The adoption process starts with a prescreen review of a Guardian Application. Making decisions about dog placement in adoptive homes is an "art", not a "science", and there will be times when applications will be denied for various reason(s). This is left to the discretion of the MAPS after reviewing relevant information. MAPS reserves the right to make all decisions regarding placement or final disposition of any rescued dog in its care into a foster or adoptive home. There is absolutely no guarantee, made or implied, that any person or persons requesting to adopt a dog being fostered through MAPS, or posted on MAP's web site, will be granted an adoption. After a successful prescreen, including background checks, the applicant(s) are notified that they can visit the dogs and a time slot is made for the dog and applicant interaction. After the interaction we encourage several days of reflection before adopting a pet to help assure this will be a lifetime commitment of love and quality care for the dog. Next we conduct a home/neighborhood visit to the Guardian Applicant's home. If the home visit proves successful the new mom and/or dad of the dog will sign an Adoption Agreement and share a lifetime of love and mindful growth !

MAPS Dog Rescue Mission
Midwest Area Pit Stop, Inc. (MAPS) is a foster home based rescue located in Madison, Wisconsin established in 2005 after being part of the Chicago Illinois based rescue Furry Friends for several years. MAPS focuses on providing a structured, safe calm environment for the dogs in their care that helps them flourish. This structured home environment is complimented by exercise, Positive Reinforcement Deference Training, very high quality dog food in addition to a broad spectrum of proven food supplements including vitamins and supplements. In addition to fostering, MAPS provides sponsorship funds to help with the veterinary expenses and/or Breed DNA testing to save dogs in need of a rescue at the end of their options. MAPS has been active in the community promoting dog safety, how to build a healthy relationship with your dog, and fighting breed discrimination including breed testing of hundreds of dogs since December 2007. MAPS believes that dogs are a central component for people to have a more meaningful and purposeful life. That is, if people are willing to embrace mindfulness in daily living. Dogs help us connect to reality and make life worth living through example and deep bonds. MAPS is not about how many dogs are adopted in the shortest amount of time but rather measures to help insure the dogs that are adopted do not come back for the wrong reasons.
