My Story

This little treasure was dumped in the backyard of a fellow animal lover. She contacted animal control and put an ad in the paper, but no one came to claim him. He is now in our care, socializing with other dogs, and waiting for a loving family to take him home.

If you know beagles, you will know that they go where their noses take them! A secure fenced-in yard is a must for our Little Prince. He enjoys going for walks and rides wonderfully in the car. Someone was probably heavy handed with him at some point as he will occasionally lower his head and give sad eyes when you reach down to pet or pick him up. He looks unsure of what someone might do, but he retains a happy go lucky spirit and is sweet, loving, a clown, and can be super playful. He already loves his stuffed animals and especially his Nylabone. He is learning that toys are owned by people who choose to share them with dogs. He gets the picture pretty quickly. He is gentle and kind and quite playful with other dogs- not yet sure about cats. He would do great in a household with older children who will not tug at his tail, etc., since he is somewhat sensitive.

He just had his first vet visit and was great with the vet staff and clients and dogs waiting in the lobby. He has been dewormed, heartworm tested negative, and had all his vaccinations (he was recently neutered). We call him our Little Prince and Bugle Boy, although he is pretty quiet unless he sees you are giving love to another canine and he isn't involved. He weighed in at 29 pounds and is a nice healthy dog- trim and fit. We think he is about a year old- his teeth are nice and white and he has some puppy-like youthful cuteness (although all beagles seem to retain that puppy appeal). He enjoys and allows being picked up and carried but is not needy.

If you would like more information, or would consider becoming a foster or forever home for Little Prince, aka Bugle Boy :), please send us an email with questions. He was a very unexpected rescue, so donations are greatly appreciated (and tax deductible!!) since one of our volunteers is paying all his bills (he is also currently in boarding). We accept donations of heartworm and flea prevention, dog beds, toys, etc. Please spread the word about this little charmer!
