My Story

******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Levi Straus, 1yr old, neutered male basenji/pit bull mix, 35 pounds. Levi is in a foster home in San Antonio, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! Levi was found starved on the streets of San Antonio and landed himself in an overcrowded city shelter before making his way to the euth list. Thankfully for him, a foster stepped up and this young guy has never looked back! Levi is in a foster home with several other dogs ranging from 40-80lbs and does great! He loves running and playing fetch, chewing toys or a friendly game of tug-o-war. He has a friendly affect with other dogs - lots of tail wags and interest in making new friends - and is superb at reading other dogs' signals to stop playing. Levi has lots of energy and would do best in a moderate- to very-active home with lots of positive outlets for his bursts of activity. He enjoys going for runs, daily walks, play dates, and would appreciate adventures like hikes or camping, doggy day care or the park. Levi has been around kids over the age of 6 and done well, although his enthusiasm for play may scare younger children. He's also still learning not to jump, so we'd recommend a home with no kids under the age of 5 for right now. He's very affectionate, offering kisses while begging for love rubs, so with age and some additional training, Levi would thrive with some two-legged siblings of his own. Levi has solid manners and is leash, crate and house trained with no accidents. He is calm and relaxed in his kennel, able to "hold it" for up to 4hrs during the day and 8hrs overnight. He is crated when unable to be supervised since he can be a tiny mischievous until he's acclimated to the routine, schedule and boundaries of his family. While out for walks, Levi walks very calmly next to you with only mild/occasional pulling that is very manageable. Levi's foster describes him as extremely intelligent, curious and alert, and a loyal, affectionate guy whose favorite pastimes include playing fetch when he's not cuddling up for belly rubs. He has a unique way of showing affection by putting his ears back and resting his hands and paws on your lap. He will paw you to tell you “please keep rubbing me”. Levi prefers to be fed meals and treats away from other dogs, likely as a carryover from his days on the streets. He is a bit of a toy hogger and will sometimes growl when his siblings attempt to steal the toys, but has never gotten into a scuffle. To ensure healthy and respectful boundaries for all involved, we would advise feeding Levi in his kennel. He has *zero* issues with humans and is very gentle with them during meal times. Levi loves to carry his favorite toy around the yard and has a cute habit of pulling his large ears back when he is showing affection. He knows how to “sit”, “shake”, and “lay down”. His tail NEVER stops wagging! Just an absolute lover-boy. <3 His ideal family would reinforce his mastery of house rules and basic commands, and supervise him around smaller animals and small children. He'd appreciate another dog for companionship but it is not a deal breaker for him as he is confident enough in his own self. We do not believe that Levi would do well with cats - he has shown strong interest in his resident feline siblings and fixates on them when they come out from their spaces. ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt him?
