My Story
ABOUT LENNY
Lenny is an 1 year old shepherd mix, longing for love! He came to HAP from a high-intake shelter partner in West Virginia when they no longer had space for him. We aren't sure about his past, but he was very underweight and nervous upon arrival. The first few days at HAP, he was a little unsure but warmed up to our staff and volunteers when he knew he was safe. Lenny really comes to life outside of the shelter, soaking up some sun and playing with his friends. He can be reserved meeting new people, often cowering or barking. However, his love is easily earned with some yummy treats or playtime. When he's not zooming around our fenced fields, you can typically find him in someone's lap giving the best cuddles! Lenny is very affectionate with people and has a huge heart. He already knows basic commands, walks well on leash, and is very food motivated to learn. Lenny recently spent a night out of the shelter with one of our volunteers! Here's what she had to say about him:
"Lenny is literally such a sweet little man. We spent the day just chilling at my apartment because I know he's still a little sensitive with meeting new people, new things, & loud noises. I think with some extra love, he'll open up a lot more. He lives for his ropes & wanted to share my watermelon, taking it so gently from the fork, but didn't want it when I tried to hand feed it to him. He spent most of the day sniffing everything, laying around anywhere he saw fit, & demanding cuddles when he wanted them!" - Marisa
**Lenny has done well with pups on walks, but he can come in a little hot, so a tolerant pup would be best! Lenny would likely do best with older kids, as fast/loud movements from new people can be scary to him.
