SHE WOULD DO BEST IN A COUNTRY SETTING THAT IS QUIET AND WITH SOMEONE WHO HAS A QUIET LIFESTYLE ***Serious inquiries only please from those who are experienced dog handlers with no children and no other pets*** Layla’s Foster Mom describes her as the classic “Huge-Personality-in-a-Small-Package” kind of dog, and she is a tiny bundle of bustling energy. She is about 35 – 40 pounds and is about 6 years old. Layla is very SWEET, AFFECTIONATE and FUNNY with people she knows and trusts, but it will take many visits and lots of patience with her as she is very wary and nervous when it comes to meeting new people. When she is around people who she doesn't know, she can get very anxious and overly excited, and it takes quite a bit of time for her to be able to settle down so she is not stressed. Anyone who wants to meet her will need to be committed to setting up appointments to come to the shelter many times to gain her trust slowly. She needs to be in a quiet and low traffic, adult-only home with no children. Her adopters will also need to be experienced dog handlers and know how to manage her behavior when she is outside her comfort zone, as she will need ongoing help navigating new environments and situations. Her adopter(s) will also always need to closely manage her interactions with anyone new. Layla’s Foster Mom enjoys Layla’s weekly overnight home visits and says she is house-trained and crate-trained and knows basic commands (come, sit, down, wait). She likes to go for walks and does well on the leash, and she is great in the car. She loves chewy toys, bones and playing fetch (although she's still working on the bringing it back part of fetch ?), and she is also capable of just hanging out and relaxing. She is extremely food motivated so training her will be easy, and she is eager to learn and please you - most of all, she wants YOUR attention and being petted is her favorite reward! While we feel that she would be best in a home as the only pet, we think it is possible that she might get along with a very mellow large male given time and proper introductions. We know the list of requirements is long and Layla is not the dog for everyone, but we are hoping to find the right home that sets her up for success and helps her thrive.
