My Story

Laela is a beautiful blue 3 year old Weimaraner that started her life as an outside dog and has learned the good life that is being an inside dog. She would be perfectly happy if she only had to go outside to go to the bathroom. Her foster brother and sister have shared their love of car rides with her, and she is the first in the car as soon as you open a door for her. She loves her people and her Weimaraner siblings. She also loves bones and lots of chew toys and will go pick out toys she wants from the toy basket, chew on for a few minutes and then go pick out another. She will play with her foster siblings, but the alpha male is grumpy and limits the fun. She especially likes when Dad gets down on the floor to wrestle with her but sometimes needs correction for chewing on arms and shirts. She would prefer someone that is not gone often and has a dog sitter that is able to watch her when they go out of town without her. She does well with a routine and will run to the crate when it is time for her humans to leave but does not do well when crated by herself. She may be okay if confined to a room with other dogs but has had to be sedated when boarded to help with excessive pacing even when in a room with a weim sibling. She will walk on a leash with a Martindale collar and has gone for runs but circles legs, so care must be taken not to trip over her. When relaxing at home, she sleeps in the dogs’ wing chair or on a dog bed under the office desk with her foster sister weim. At night, she finds the last remaining space on the bed and squeezes in. She is ready to roll in the morning when she thinks it is time for breakfast which unfortunately can be a lot earlier than the humans want to get up. She unknown with cats but seems oblivious to small furry animals. She does well with kids if they respect her need to pace and have food for her to steal. She is tall so most kitchen counters are just the right height for her to grab some food but would prefer just waiting for her human brother to leave his food un-attended than to counter surf. She likes to steal Dad’s socks from the basement but just drops them in front of you without chewing. She will drop other items she is not supposed to when told but struggles giving up the prized pizza or bread crusts left by the kid that is easily distracted from his plate. Although Laela has adjusted with her foster family, it took quite some time to get here, so she will need a ton of patience to allow her to relax and settle in. A quieter home, with someone who works from home and has another stable dog would be best! She is currently on daily anxiety meds. Laela is fostered in Sioux City, Iowa. Her adoption fee is $250.
