King - 1 eyed young male

KING - male DOB spring 2023 Missing one eye at intake. The vet looked at his eye and it was totally healed over, so vet did not have to do anything. It's likely an older injury from fighting with other dogs as he also had some bite wounds that were healing at intake and we had him a few month prior and his eye was fine at that time. Having only sight in one eye doesn't bother him or cause him to have any particular special needs. His breed is a bit of a mystery to us so we'll leave him as a mix breed - he's not a really large dog but bigger than medium sized. King did really good on the leash and listened well to commands on his visit to the vet for neuter surgery. He was good on the short trip in a vehicle and was good with the staff at the vet clinic. He was a lot more calm when out of the shelter setting and seemed like a different dog. He was sweet and enjoyed human contact. (we often find shelter dogs are quite different away from the chaos of the shelter). King will benefit with time in a home where he'll have a chance to decompress from shelter life and relax to show his real personality. He can have trouble containing his excitement being a higher energy dog but once he settles down he can't get enough attention and pets! A Trial adoption period is available for King (as they are with all of our dogs if requested) to allow him time to settle into a new situation. King doesn't seem to mind having a bath and did well having one in the local Pet Valu's dog wash station. He is not good with cats, much too interested in the cat cages and could possibly not be good with small dogs or other smaller animals such as rabbits, chickens etc. He's been with some younger female dogs in the shelter perimeter area and been ok with them - we're not sure if he'd be ok with a male dog as we haven't tried him with other males. He's a higher energy dog so we are looking for someone who can keep him well exercised. A tired dog is a good dog! We don't know if he is house broken as he's only ever been with us in the shelter but he does use the dog door to do bathroom business outside. Regular adoption fee for dogs is $300; if the dog is too young for spay/neuter prior to adoption then a $300 post dated spay/neuter deposit cheque (OR PAD form) is also required - we don't cash this cheque but hold it until cheque date and proof of S/N surgery provided by the date on the cheque - typically when the pup is 6 months of age. Occasionally we adopt out particular animals at fundraising prices to help offset our vet bills, each fundraiser dog will be posted as such with the adoption fee noted. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter and rabies ONLY if surgery is done with our Meadow Lake vet; otherwise adopters are responsible to pay those fees at their own vets.
